Critic Reviews for Snatch Season 1
All Critics (19) | Top Critics (10) | Fresh (8) | Rotten (11)
Guy Ritchie has nothing to do with the series, but showrunner Alex De Rakoff has generously adapted the director's kinky visual style and black humor... visually it's a blast.
It adeptly moves along, creating a rhythm easy to fall into, but far from addictive. Time may turn this into a more moving adventure, but it's a bit too uninspired to leave a mark a la Mickey's right hook.
Snatch on Crackle pops. The new series, based on Guy Ritchie's 2000 movie, is a whole lot of fun, a stylish heist story with an irreverent sense of humor.
A new generation misunderstanding the nostalgia and just trying to make it look fashionable.
It is endlessly, desperately in thrall to Guy Ritchie. And, since Guy Ritchie was desperately in thrall to Tarantino when he made Snatch, the whole thing comes off as spectacularly inauthentic; a Xerox of a Xerox of a Xerox.
It's at least committed to keeping things zipping along. It's a small virtue, but it matters. If you can't give your audience something original or interesting to look at, then at least don't make them wait.
The lackluster writing rarely does justice to the solid lineup of actors. Snatch is certainly worth a try, but it could have been more than it is.
To my surprise and absolute delight, creator and showrunner Alex De Rakoff steered the Snatch series well past the iceberg and into new territory for the Crackle streaming service.
It respects the origin film, but it's not a slave to it. Recommendable. [Full Review in Spanish]
Appealing people make bad choices in violent heist series.
Snatch becomes tiresome in its constant attempts to dazzle the viewer.
The show is riddled with characterizations that are meant to be humorous but are just dumb or offensive.

Jan 05, 2021Definitely better than the critics rating. Similarities to the movie, engaging characters (although the Rupert Grint character is a little to dumb). Enjoyable.

Mar 25, 2019This show is really awesome- it's fun, interesting and puts a stylish coat of paint on the criminal lifestyle.
-
Dec 08, 2018i LOVED it, the series was great, it had a very similar feeling to the film but not too much that it wasn't it's own. To all the critics that have managed to get this down to a 33% WHY? It's becoming more and more REGULAR that you see an Audience score in the 80s and 90s with a critic score in the toilet! so in my opinion Tv and film is made for the audience not for the critics so trust the audience, the show is good! I've finished season2 and look forward to season 3

Oct 22, 2018Snatch the movie was brilliant - this swill should be fed to Bricktop's pigs

Feb 21, 2018I loved the series it's amazing must watch.

Jan 10, 2018Do not be deterred from all the negative reviews. This is a very entertaining show on it's own. Don't let the name sake or sequel syndrome not appreciate this show. If you a fan of shows like, Shameless, Skins, or any British television for that matter; movies like Dom Hemmingway and Rise of the foot soldier will thoroughly enjoy this series.

Oct 01, 2017I only started watching this because I thought it would be funny to see Ron Weasley in an adult role. Ended up binging through it in a weekend. Had a lot of fun twists and some great characters. Its super British like the movie so if your American be ready to turn on the subtitles when the bloody pikeys(spelling?) make an appearance.

May 02, 2017I loved this show...except for the season finale. Was not a fan of how it all came together. But other than that, very enjoyable. Critics rating it so low is a bunch of bs
-
Apr 07, 2017Fun and action-packed. Great costume and a curious esthetic, maybe the most controversial point. It exaggerates in the use of slow motion and color filters, but it serves well the narrative.
