Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman for CBS All Access, the story of "Star Trek: Discovery" begins roughly a decade before Captain Kirk's five-year mission -- as portrayed in the original "Star Trek" from the 1960s -- and a century before the events of "Star Trek: Enterprise." The series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they encounter new worlds and civilizations, delving into familiar themes and expanding upon an incident that has been talked about within the franchise's universe, but never fully explored.

This show has boldly tried re-inventing and updating Trek, and, after the first episode, it works. Go to Full Review

Star Trek doesn't leave any gaps. Nor, I expect, will it. We will see the aliens, see the distant worlds. Nothing will be figurative, nothing will be implied, there will be no endless, unseen mystery about which to thrill. Go to Full Review

Going into the second half of its season, Discovery has kinks to work out, but it's laid the all-important groundwork for a rich and tight-knit ensemble. Go to Full Review

Far more emotional than other Trek shows, this is for those who wish to feel the big earnest emotion of a sci-fi epic while still peppering in enough moral quandaries to keep us engaged. Go to Full Review

Kenzie S. @akenzii May 25 This had a strong start but the plot felt flimsy and the episodes sometimes felt like it was zooming into the wrong thing, missing the emotional impact it was desperately trying to go for. See more Startrekker58 T @RT21168618 Mar 16 Was looking forward to this as a star trek fan. Watched the whole of season 1 and part of season 2 till I gave up on it improving to a standard I would have expected from star trek. As a fan from the original trek in 1969 if I remember rightly. when the next generation came back it took a little while for me to get back into it. I have loved all star trek right up to enterprise even since then. So that is why I watched the whole of the 1st season of discovery and part of season 2 before realising this new trek or Kurtzman trek as I call it to distinguish it from real trek was not for me. At least I have my DVD collection so I can watch my star trek. Thanks Alex but no thanks for your take on what was one of my favourite tv shows ever. Not even thinking about watching starfleet academy. See more Lexy P @Janats Dec 27 Never watched Star Trek before this show, it was a great experience and I am looking forward to the next seasons. See more Matthew S @shinnersmjm Dec 23 I love to rewatch all of the Star Trek series, being a huge Trekkie and all. However, this is one that I consistently struggle with. I think if this were just any sci-fi show it would be fine, however, being "Star Trek" is my issue. I begin with the first and easiest thing: Spore Drive. I think this is again a cool "sci-fi" idea, but not a "Star Trek" idea. This idea that there is way to travel that could take you anywhere is overpowered, and why wouldn't anyone else discover it after Discovery. It doesn't make sense. Aside from that, Michael Burnham. I have nothing against the actress, but the show seems operate on this idea that the entire universe moves around her. Klingon War, evil double universe, Red Angel, and I could go on. The character felt unrelatable and didn't run with the previous treks. No ship was complete without the crew as whole. That didn’t feel as true in Discovery with shipmates coming and going, except for Burnham. See more Jerry A @RT68856893 Nov 17 Reviewing after rewatching for the third time. Is this even star trek? Most of these plot lines could have in Space Cadets See more Michael M. @SpideyJ Oct 20 A great sci-fi series. Maybe not a great Star Trek series. Go in with the right expectations and you'll be well rewarded. See more Read all reviews
