Time is of the essence on this cooking show that features teams racing against the clock to bake the best-tasting sweets. Four teams of bakers showcase their kitchen skills in each episode as they whip up cakes and other confections with the hope of leaving with the $10,000 grand prize. Pastry chefs Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo --- along with a roster of guest judges that includes restaurateur Richard Blais and actor Colin Hanks -- critique the bakers' culinary creations and determine who takes home the cash prize at the end of each competition.

01/14/2020 I really love Sugar Rush and recently I have been binge-watching it on Netflix. Season 2 was amazing and I really enjoyed how the show was set up; how the judges would comment on the baking as the contestants competed, declared a winner for each round, and allowed the teams to bake their cake as soon as they were able to. In season 1, the judges leave the kitchen, leaving the viewers to only watch the bakers. It was enjoyable to hear the judge's take on the contestant's process and get to know the guest judges. Hearing the conversations between the judges added some relief and comedy that you don't get as much from a fast-paced, time-stressed competition. I enjoyed the voting process a lot more than I did in season 1, since they added a winner for each round and the contestants were supportive of one another. I am so glad that the show also changed the way time was saved as well as the buzzer sound. In season 1 the teams would have to wait out the time that they lost in the other rounds, which is not only a bit dull for the viewers and stressful for the contestants, but also leaves room for the team standing there to judge and criticize the other team. You can see this in the first episode of season 1, where it made what was supposed to be a fun and exciting environment feel extremely negative and tense. Now, the teams immediately move on once they have completed a challenge, which makes things more exciting and does not allow the time to bash another team. I hope this is not where television is headed... See more Read all reviews
