It's lackadaisical, weary, bland and off-center. The latter is the chief problem:

With these two actors on board, the show is not half bad.

Every so often, a show arrives and instantly feels lived-in, like a comfortable old couch with slight depressions in all the right places. FX's Terriers is one of those shows, beautifully torn and frayed from the get-go.

If you spend too much time trying to figure out what FX's new drama Terriers wants to be, you might miss the fact that mainly it's pretty good.

Opting for a scruffier, darker comic tone to fit its Raymond Chandler-esque lead, it made for addictive viewing.

I'll be coming back to Terriers to see how Hank fares.

Jun 19, 2018 | Full Review…

Terriers, a show about private detectives, but really a show about charming characters and zippy dialogue in a sunny locale, deserved so much better than the one season and a cloud of dust that it got.

This is a series that can easily switch between a variety of tones, from light-hearted, sarcastic banter between Hank and Britt in their truck to sentimental recollections of a former life...

Terriers, quite simply, delivered on all fronts.

It's not that "Terriers" is a bad show. It isn't. But it is more of the same, only now with a different face

Small scale, maybe, and that's part of Terriers' irreverent charm.

Audience Reviews for Terriers: Season 1

  • May 16, 2020
Amazing show that was cancelled well before it's time.
  • May 15, 2020
Underappreciated at the time, this was a fresh, clever, unexpected show that deserved a lot more viewer love.
  • Apr 21, 2020
Great characters, storyline, humor. Terriers ranks among my favorite TV shows and it is disappointing that it was not renewed for a second season. I feel that if it were on today, and not renewed, it would be successfully picked up by streaming and have a new, larger audience.

Terriers lasted only one season, but that was enough to make it one of the very best shows that FX has ever aired. As well executed as it was written, Terriers really feels like a taut neo-noir, filled with memorable scenes and characters. It's a shame that it was abruptly cancelled, but perhaps we can find solace in the fact that it makes this one season of television so easy to obtain and digest.
