See more Alain E @AlainE Apr 10 Frankly, I don’t understand the enthusiasm about this series. About fifty years ago before we had TV or internet, I read Tolstoy’s book. My recollection is that the affair started because the woman felt neglected. Here the woman has an apparently happy marriage and a career. Then she meets the guy at a party organized to announce his upcoming wedding and bam!, explosions. Personally, I even think that the guy is minimally attractive. The whole thing moves very slowly. Love the side relationships in this series and the way they were portrayed. However, my favourite (and probably the only element I liked) aspect of Anna Karenina is lacking slightly here. Don't get me wrong, the acting was great but Sarah Snook just didn't have the chemistry with Benedict Samuel to make their relationship as compelling as it should have been. It's not a reflection of their acting just a bad casting choice. Saying that it doesn't detract away from the fact that this was an amazing modern reimagining of Tolstoy's classic.
