This reimagining of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel "Anna Karenina" is set in contemporary society, with a focus on middle-class life in modern times. The six-part series takes a look at the love lives of both happy and unhappy families -- including the grandeur and mess that come along with those feelings. Fidelity, seduction, commitment, jealousy, envy, obligation and passion are the types of topics explored on the Australian drama series.

Sinead K @RT31976091 Nov 15 Stumbled across this on Amazon when planning to watching something else and what a gem it turned out to be! Love the side relationships in this series and the way they were portrayed. However, my favourite (and probably the only element I liked) aspect of Anna Karenina is lacking slightly here. Don't get me wrong, the acting was great but Sarah Snook just didn't have the chemistry with Benedict Samuel to make their relationship as compelling as it should have been. It's not a reflection of their acting just a bad casting choice. Saying that it doesn't detract away from the fact that this was an amazing modern reimagining of Tolstoy's classic. See more Jerome Y @RT07261515 06/16/2023 As good a TV series as they come, this Australian jewel has everything: drama, comedy, passion, outstanding performances, noteworthy directing and photography. See more 02/07/2020 "The Beautiful Lie" is a brilliant reimaging of Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina." Of course, the source material is considered by many to be the greatest novel ever written. Does that make a modern adaption more or less difficult to pull off? I don't know, but in this case, I found the television series to be a wonderful look at the full range of human emotions that were so foundational to Tolstoy's great novel 165 years ago. People, I guess, don't really change. See more Read all reviews
