Critic Reviews for The Break With Michelle Wolf Season 1

Netflix may not need commercials, but the late-night show as re-imagined by Netflix still does.

May 29, 2018 | Full Review…

That segment serves as a reminder that Michelle Wolf is a dangerous comic. She says she "broke" the correspondents' dinner. Maybe she'll end up breaking TV, too.

Mar 28, 2019 | Full Review…

The sketch positions journalism as pure spectacle, just as the "sincere and angry" segment positions late-night comedy as a righteous fact-finding mission. The Break was the rare comedy to point up this contradiction rather than shrink away from it.

Aug 23, 2018 | Full Review…

For all her performative bombast, there's something admirably low-key about Wolf's hosting.

Aug 1, 2018 | Rating: B+ | Full Review…

Wolf's girlish voice also makes you expecther humor to be on the softer side. But she gets in her audience's face.

Jul 17, 2018 | Full Review…

Not every joke has to land for the show to be even half as much fun as Wolf is clearly having.

Jun 11, 2018 | Full Review…

She avoids the didacticism of other late night shows, while also delivering salient commentary on cultural zeitgeist.

Comedian brings her original voice to weekly news show.

Jun 5, 2018 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

I don't think "The Break" has quite done justice to Wolf's talents yet, but it's definitely a show I'll be sticking with.

Jun 5, 2018 | Full Review…

Wolf's show is meant to give viewers a break from self-important talk TV, and it succeeds by making everything, even the show itself, feel inconsequential.

Jun 4, 2018 | Full Review…

Wolf isn't for everyone, but if her Seth Meyers' bits and the White House Correspondents Dinner made you laugh, you're going to love this.

May 31, 2018 | Full Review…

It wasn't a very auspicious debut; Wolf's standup comedy was OK but not hilarious, and her taped segments demonstrated a tendency to repeat the same joke over and over.

Audience Reviews for The Break With Michelle Wolf: Season 1

  • Oct 26, 2020
The jokes aren't funny, and Wolf's delivery of the material is annoyingly loud and shrill. There are hundreds of comics who are more talented than this and more deserving of their own show.
  • Oct 10, 2020
Michelle Wolf is woefully unfunny. Saying something loudly in a silly voice doesn't turn it into good comedy.
  • Oct 04, 2020
She's just not funny and has a very annoying voice/laugh. She loves to laugh at her own jokes too. It's just....bad.
  • Dec 12, 2019
yeah...that abortion bit was just insanely funny.....smfh
  • Feb 08, 2019
You may as well watch the final season of this great show. It has some pretty high-value skits.
  • Sep 06, 2018
The Break is cutting commentary on politics and how we report politics. Michelle Wolf has the charisma of a shih tzu wearing a beret with the comedic punch of a cannon ball.
  • Sep 01, 2018
Sad to see this one go, but current events is not Netflix's bread and butter. I hope we get to see her in a more suitable venue.
  • Aug 19, 2018
Why this show had to cancelled where season 2
  • Aug 18, 2018
Very unfunny. Mostly cheap jabs and childish ‘potty talk’ I can’t imagine anyone with an IQ in the double digits liking this humorless drivel.
  • Aug 01, 2018
Smartest and most fun and honest show on Of its kinD. She is so awesome with them shoes, too!
