Confidently showing off what it can achieve in the later episodes, as well as a finale that fully grasps the title V-Wars, it's already looking like season two will see this confrontation blossom into its true potential.

Blood means more than one thing in V-Wars, an excellently put together Netflix series with Ian Somerhalder as the inquisitive Dr. Swann and a standout Cree actor Michael Greyeyes

While there is plenty to entertain, the series as a whole was mediocre in the face of adaptations, as well as those inductions within the genre that have come before.

Based on the graphic novel by Jonathan Maberry, it's a frustrating thing in that it keeps threatening to burst out of its thicket of genre and television conventions without delivering.

It's unabashedly silly in setting up its horrifying, credulity-stretching end-of-days conflict - a fun, freaky B-movie stretched out to series' length. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

All in all, V Wars is a thrilling well-paced ride that offers its own unique contribution to the somewhat overcrowded vampire genre, and though not everything is perfect, it's damn good fun that compels you to keep watching.

It does not aspire to be a good show, which is good, because it is not. It's basically Generic Redbox Vampire Movie: The Series.
