In present-day Europe, astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy and the world waits for further contact. Within days of the transmission, mankind is all but wiped out by a devastating attack. There are pockets of humanity left in the eerily deserted world and the survivors must avoid and escape the aliens bent on destroying them and everything they hold dear. A loose reimagining of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel, this third television adaptation stars Gabriel Byrne, Daisy Edgar-Jones and an ensemble supporting cast.

The grey, almost colorless cinematography (it's never sunny here) lends an added air of menace to the atmosphere. Go to Full Review

An intriguing first episode then, suggesting that this second series is trying to avoid the sluggishness of the first run by seeding some new and dramatic plot twists that promise genuine tension ahead. Go to Full Review

After a busy opening, it's kept its secrets and given very little away, moving the plot forward in as small increments as it can allow. Go to Full Review

Bruno H Mar 5 The idea of the show is good. However too much teenage drama that makes unbearable to watch. The boy Sacha is the worst actor ever with the worst performance ever. The French speaking also completely annoying. In English would be much better. See more Slick R @SlickReviewer 11/24/2024 I agree with the audience ratings, season 2 is a little better than season 1, probably because a lot more happens in the story. And Daisy Edgar Jones is still a main character thankfully. One casting issue, I'm not sure why they chose a dude who looks like a girl to hook up with Daisy, but it's kind of weird seeing them make out and have sex. Another lame scene was when Bill Ward was telling the other girl over the hand radio that he still needed to extract the virus out of Emily... all while the captured alien was in the next room listening to everything he was saying... Like he couldn't have stepped outside? And then after they scuffle and she tries to kill him he leaves her with his loaded gun and runs out of the apartment? Wtf? The script has major problems but I guess it passes the time. See more Neil H 04/22/2024 This just felt like a series that could have been an email. The first season was great and really different with lots of threads, and then just somehow evaporated into nothing. Yes, they're time travellers, that was obvious from the start but it took a whole series to explain it. See more Michele G @MeeshAnd 07/05/2023 There was so much potential, and the acting is outstanding. But, my biggest difficulty is that there was a promise that was really not delivered. The 1st season led me to wonder about all that was going to be revealed...the monsters and aliens. Instead, there was an uber-vandictive soccer mom. I think many people will like it, and there's so much to like. I just don't like being duped. See more Laurence S @Lazza 03/22/2023 War of the Worlds is out of this world! Like I said in my review of series 1, this is one of the best dystopian sci-fi's I've seen in a long time. It’s a grim, dark, gritty, ruthless and heartbreaking slow-burner.
