The main thrust of the plot revolves around a character we hardly know and are not invested in. The "romance" is nearly non-existent. Our leads enter into a relationship without getting to know each other or connecting emotionally. Our male lead is not only a cheater but he is fickle and prone to temper tantrums. It's abhorrent to watch him scream at our FL when he disagrees with her decisions. It's just an undercooked mess with nothing to hook into. A major waste of time. There are meaningful hidden messages about the importance of all life forms on earth, and themes of loyalty, love, friendship, bravery, and real values all wrapped up in an entertaining package that is also visually stunning. It is well written, wonderfully directed, perfectly edited, with beautiful cinematography, and a wonderful cast that has the exceptionally talented and charismatic Lee Min-ho in the lead as Dr. Gong Ryong. He delivers a phenomenal portrayal of a multi layered character who is funny, disarmingly charming, brooding, whimsical, serious, clumsy, sexy, romantic, caring, and adorable. He is magical in every scene. As the delightful story and the romance between him and the commander evolves Gong Ryong shows much more depth of character, value and resolve specially in an amazingly insane selfless act of bravery in episode 4. That episode alone is a testimony of Lee Min-ho’s incredible range as he manages to be funny, romantic, silly, and heroic at the same time. These days with so many predictable run of the mill American and European romcoms, this wonderful Korean production is not only a breath of fresh air, but it is actually a fantastic series.
