While studying at England's prestigious National Film and Television School (NFTS), Fraser Macdonald was able to write and direct three short films, marking his initial entries into the world of professional filmmaking. These were good experiences, for sure, but Macdonald has gone on to bigger and brighter success on the small screen. He made his television debut in 2003, directing six episodes of the long-running British crime-drama "The Bill," and he quickly found work on a number of other popular programs, exclusively in his native country. Macdonald had a banner year in 2008, directing two episodes of the well-received dramedy "Shameless" as well as four episodes of the sexy drama "Secret Diary of a Call Girl." As the decade continued, the director seemed to find a perfect home on the BBC, finding his niche on a number of dramatic programs. He joined the directorial staff of the medical drama "Holby City" in 2004, earning the opportunity to direct numerous episodes. Though the show itself often fell victim to scathing reviews from critics (many of whom compared the program unfavorably to other medical dramas), Macdonald continued to prosper, directing multiple episodes (over multiple seasons) of the acclaimed BBC romance-drama "Waterloo Road."
