Grouplove
Though Grouplove was an L.A.-based band, they actually first got together at an artist residency in Crete. But singer Hannah Hooper, bassist Sean Gadd, guitarists Christian Zucconi and Andrew Wessen, and drummer Ryan Rabin didn't formally start the group until some time later in Los Angeles. Ryan, the son of Yes guitarist Trevor Rabin, was a producer as well as a drummer, and he oversaw the band's 2010 debut EP in his own studio. With their mix of synth pop, dance rock, and post punk influences, Grouplove earned attention and a significant amount of buzz straight out of the gate. Their first album, Never Trust a Happy Song (also produced by Rabin) was released through Canvasback/Atlantic in 2011, and the single "Tongue Tied" ended up going Platinum. Spreading Rumors followed two years later, and made it to No. 21 on the U.S. album charts, with the single "Ways to Go" landing in the upper rungs of the Alternative chart. After the record's release, Grouplove experienced its first change in the original lineup, as Sean Gadd left the band, to be replaced by Daniel Gleason. At this point, the band was a major presence on the festival circuit in America, playing high-profile events like Coachella, Bonnaroo, and others. Grouplove's third album, Big Mess, was released in 2016. The band's first album to feature Gleason offered up a hit single in "Welcome to Your Life" and landed the group at No. 40 on the Top 200. Grouplove has also had a good run on television, landing songs in such shows as "Girls" (HBO 2012-17).
