Jason Knapp
Jason Knapp was an American sports broadcaster who beginning in 2012, covered a variety of Olympic competitions for NBC Sports. Born and raised in Medford, New Jersey, Knapp always had an interest in sports. He played sports throughout grade school and high school, but by the time senior year rolled around, quickly realized that he would never have a career as a professional athlete. However, given that his love and passion for sports remained strong, Knapp decided to embark on an off-the-field career as a broadcaster. He attended Syracuse University in upstate New York and quickly became the school's play-by-play announcer for several of its teams. The training proved to be very beneficial for Knapp, and by the time graduation rolled around he had enough experience under his belt to land a full-time sports broadcasting gig. After college he took a job at the NBC affiliate in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and within a few years worked his way up to becoming the sports director for the station. After several years of covering sports on the local level, however, Knapp longed to move up the ranks and report on sports nationally. His big break came in 2006 when CBS Sports hired him as a general sports reporter. While working for CBS Knapp worked as both a sideline reporter for college football, as well as a play-by-play announcer for college baseball, field hockey and basketball. Despite being content working as a college sports reporter for CBS, Knapp maintained a long held desire to cover the Olympics. And as fate would have it, in 2012 NBC Sports hired him on as a general reporter for its wrestling, shooting, and archery coverage at the 2012 Olympics. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for the longtime sports fan, and was only the beginning of a long relationship with the network. He also covered curling for NBC's 2014 Winter Olympics coverage, as well as a variety of sports for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
