Former radio and TV writer with a facility for light, romantic comedy. Shapiro enjoyed a number of feature successes in the late 1950s and 60s, writing vehicles for stars Cary Grant, David Niven and Rock Hudson and Doris Day ("Pillow Talk" 1959). He co-wrote both "Bedtime Story" (1964) with Marlon Brando and David Niven, and its 1988 remake, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.
