Disaster Movie (2008) 1% 1.5/4 EDIT “The filmmakers understand that comedy springs from incongruity. However they seem to lack the timing, craft, and spirit that go into such.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 29, 2008 Full Review The House Bunny (2008) 43% 3/4 EDIT “I got more solid laughs out of this movie than from anything I've seen yet this year.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 24, 2008 Full Review Death Race (2008) 41% 2/4 EDIT “The movie is exactly what you're probably expecting after having seen the trailer. Nothing more, nothing less.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 24, 2008 Full Review American Teen (2008) 69% 3/4 EDIT “American Teen's virtue lies not so much in the cinematic techniques used, but in the honest personalities that shine through.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 24, 2008 Full Review Tropic Thunder (2008) 82% 2.5/4 EDIT “Ends with such a self-congratulatory celebration as to underscore the question of who the joke is really on - crappy movies, or the audiences who eat them right up.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 24, 2008 Full Review Henry Poole Is Here (2008) 39% 3/4 EDIT “For a while, the movie wields its existential angst so purposefully and heavily that it can be difficult to handle, depending on how philosophically minded you are.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 24, 2008 Full Review The Rocker (2008) 40% 2.5/4 EDIT “The Rocker has some pretty funny moments, but overall the whole affair never shakes off the nagging feeling that it wants to be School of Rock.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 20, 2008 Full Review Fly Me to the Moon (2008) 20% 2/4 EDIT “If the software that Pixar Studios is using these days in version 7.0, then what the makers of Fly Me to the Moon are utilizing is perhaps version 2.5.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 15, 2008 Full Review Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) 18% 3/4 EDIT “I received chills up my spine more than once, just via a careful line or two of dialogue reflecting Obi-Wan's esteem for his apprentice.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 15, 2008 Full Review The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008) 66% 3/4 EDIT “Young women may not typically demand this quality of cinematic entertainment to be aimed at their demographic, but they should.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 9, 2008 Full Review Pineapple Express (2008) 68% 3/4 EDIT “Pineapple Express is a madcap farcical crime comedy first and foremost, saturated with the casual conversational silliness of a marijuana disconnect.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 9, 2008 Full Review Swing Vote (2008) 38% 2.5/4 EDIT “The final 10 minutes are good enough that they actually deserve a better movie supporting them.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 2, 2008 Full Review Brideshead Revisited (2008) 62% 3/4 EDIT “The kind of movie that shows us a world we might like to visit, no matter how much we might have reservations about the people we'd have to face in such a vacation.” – Fantastica Daily Aug 2, 2008 Full Review Step Brothers (2008) 54% 2/4 EDIT “Someone with the short term memory problems of the protagonist in Memento might find Step Brothers to be the height of comedic genius.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 25, 2008 Full Review Mamma Mia! (2008) 55% 1.5/4 EDIT “A Frankenstein's monster of a musical, with ABBA tunes stitched together using the DNA extracted from successful musicals.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 18, 2008 Full Review The Dark Knight (2008) 94% 3.5/4 EDIT “One character says it best. 'Now that's a Batman.'” – Fantastica Daily Jul 18, 2008 Full Review Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) 59% 2/4 EDIT “If 3-D cinema technology takes off, I can imagine a day when this version of Journey to the Center of the Earth is regarded as a mere gimmicky throwaway.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 12, 2008 Full Review Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) 86% 2/4 EDIT “The movie may be artificial in an interesting way, but when the characters and dialogue arrive with the danger and edge of a Playskool toy, it's hard to get behind it.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 12, 2008 Full Review Hancock (2008) 42% 3/4 EDIT “In the end, the movie sneaks up on us and delivers a solid pay-off, one that may even have many members of the audience shedding a tear.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 2, 2008 Full Review WALL-E (2008) 95% 2.5/4 EDIT “There are jokes and gags aplenty, sure, but without any depth to the characters, the effect is a bit one-sided. Too much of the movie winds up feeling skin-deep.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 2, 2008 Full Review Wanted (2008) 71% 3/4 EDIT “An over-the-top action movie that builds and builds, and keeps the promises it makes along the way.” – Fantastica Daily Jul 2, 2008 Full Review Get Smart (2008) 51% 3/4 EDIT “Steve Carell may have been born to play this part.” – Fantastica Daily Jun 20, 2008 Full Review The Love Guru (2008) 13% 2/4 EDIT “Mike Myers once again channels his inner giggling 12-year-old, but does so with a full embrace rather than with an air of irony or self-mockery.” – Fantastica Daily Jun 20, 2008 Full Review What Happens in Vegas (2008) 25% 1.5/4 EDIT “In the end, only the one-dimensional characters on screen seem capable of believing that love has been found in this dreadful mire.” – Fantastica Daily Jun 17, 2008 Full Review The Happening (2008) 17% 2/4 EDIT “In the end, one has to wonder why Shyamalan is so intent on riding his one-trick pony so hard. The animal is tired and needs desperately to rest.” – Fantastica Daily Jun 17, 2008 Full Review
