I really liked this film, however, the comedy vs serious is the downfall, as it neither and it would have been far better being a serious horror film. Margaret Hamilton is fantastic and in fairness, she is the only stand-out Actor in the film. The special effects are well done for the time

I finally decided to watch the original 13 Ghosts (1960). (foreverfinalgirl.com/13-ghosts-1960/)

A cute little film that has a good moral ending!

2.5/5. A mediocre haunted house movie that has a handful of creepy moments, but nothing too special.

I'm happy to watch Castle's movies as his personality seems to shine through in them, making their very corny production values strange appealing. The horror elements rarely rise above the level of hokey and thus the emphasis is placed on the actors, whose dialogue and performances are generally pretty strong. They're enjoyable more for the novelty of 60s-era gimmicks as it gives a good glimpse into what life must've been like back then, though even contemporary reviews found the movies thoroughly un-scary. I liked this one more than his House on Haunted Hill as it featured a prologue of him charismatically explaining the gimmick. This was ripe for a gory remake and it got one - not much more you can ask for here!

Boring, terribly acted out, and with 0 scares or even unsettling imagery, this movie proves completely how blinding nostalgia can be. The remake from 2001 is leagues better

About as much fun as it is possible to have in 85 minutes. I was drawn to this having seen the 'remake' several times. 13 Ghosts is a work of self indulgent near genius. It's influence can be seen far and wide. Great horror, super ghosts and innovation by the cartload.

While the regular part of the movie is decently acted, the "ghost" aspect is almost laughable unfortunately. The sounds are just as bad.

13 Ghosts has the problem of being the sibling of House on Haunted Hill and The Tingler, the former being a stone cold classic with a wicked sense of humor, the latter being a Vincent Price tour de force that is far more fun than it has any right to be. That said, there's plenty of good to be found in 13 Ghosts including a winking performance by Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard of Oz), and some neat ghost effects. 3 stars

A family moved into a house from inheritance, soon they learnt the house was haunted. However the ghosts are the least of their worry, someone is plotting something more sinister. More hilarious than scary, the acting was infuriating and the imagery were dreadfully amateurish. 13 Ghosts relied on cinematic gimmicks with no real substance.
