kathleen d @KH-SF Dec 31 Moved very slow. Flimsy story. Too many things unexplained. The casting was very odd. Acting was flat and the chemistry between Robbins and Morton was nonexistent. It was particularly painful to watch the love scenes where Robbins looked like he wished he was anywhere else. With barely a conversation or two between them, Tim Robbins is in love with her? Willing to put his family and job on the line? Seriously? Overall, really disappointing. Not a good day for Tim Robbins who I normally really like in movies. Do NOT recommend this movie. The couple (Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton) not only have no screen chemistry between them, we also can't connect with them as individuals. Neither is particularly likeable or even interesting. The Orwellian scenario of the not-too-distant future is somewhat interesting, but the lame romantic aspect of the story is just outright boring. There's a typical scene at the end with insipid pop music playing, some no talent singer whining about lost love, like some big tragedy happened. Problem is, I didn't give a damn.
