A really unique film, with a role in which I think Ray Milland is one of the few actors that could have pulled it off. The on-screen chemistry between him and Marlene Dietrich is wonderful, and you end up rooting for them all the way.
A strange Nazi twist, with Dietrich glowing, and a nice old fashioned romance brewing... Dietrich plays an earthy gypsy with a heart of gold--Absorbing, plausible, wonderfully entertaining!!
A former British spy recalls his wartime journey through Germany with a Gypsy woman. Dietrich cast as a dark skinned gypsy woman is delightfully bizarre, but Milland and her do not share much of a spark. It's a mildly entertaining film with some amusing moments, but not very memorable.
Not bad romance/spy adventure. Somewhat predictable though.
A very lightweight film--decent enough to pass the time.
Not a masterpiece, but Dietrich is wonderful in this film!
THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD OLD MOVIE.. MARLENE DIETRICH PLAYED A GYPSY.... IN A TIME THAT THE NAZI'S WERE COLLECTING THESE KIND OF PEOPLE ECT.. RAY MILLAND WAS REALLY GOOD... YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS...
I loved this movie..Great Romance. it is about gypies.
This is a different kind of WWII movie not overly propagandized. This has to be one of my faves primarily because it focuses on an overlooked population that was more or less ignored by popular media during the war... the Roma/gypsies... and it does so in a way that tries to respects their culture while blending it with a casablanca-esque storyline of murder, mystery, intrigue, and of course nazis. A British officer embarks on a dangerous mission in the heart of Germany. However, they are captured and forced to escape. His only choice is to try and disappear. An eccentric gypsy (Marlene) takes him under her wing, more or less because she is attracted to him, and assimilates him into her culture. He soon falls for her, but danger is never far behind. Eventually they are forced to separate, but what is to become of them after the war?...
marlene dietrich is a sexy gypsy who will put everyone in their place, its awesome! you have to give it a shot!
