Bella S @Bellashortcake Mar 5 One of my favourite horror films of all time. I watched it in the cinema when it first came out and was spooked for days. I had to watch it multiple times to stop being afraid of it lol. The jump scares are there, the plot is great and the characters are awesome. I’ve watched this film countless times and I still love it, I can’t get tired of watching it. It’s the best of the sequel too. See more Joaquin M @joaquin_massengill Jan 21 Some things I really did enjoy about this movie were the sound and music, the different scenes, the camera movement, and the way the actors talked and interacted with the environment. The times the music and sound really shine are some of the first scares and scenes where it gets intense and the sound adds that tension. The different scenes and how the family moves houses is really cool. For example, how books fall off the shelf after Rena just puts them up on a shelf or when Josh grabs a pitchfork from the fireplace to defend himself.. The camera movement is also really cool which I feel like adds to the movie making it more immersive. Some of the things I didn't like were the ending and a lot of the jump scares were lacking. Most of the scares aren't "scary" as they're mostly simple and some last a little too long, and are kinda bland. A BIG issue is the ending of the movie. It is super boring and is pretty cliche and pretty typical when it comes to cliffhangers. The family tries to save him from evil spirits trying to possess his body for sinful things. Insidious is an interesting and enjoyable horror movie with a strong plot and good performances, despite its special effects not being the most realistic. The cool toned preset throughout the movie gave it an eerie feel, while the wide shots and floaty top views made the viewer watch the family from Dalton’s point of view, specifically when Elise is introduced and observing the situation. The music and sound design is rightfully appreciated, with the main score composed of strings to build anxiety and trepidation in the viewer. The sound effects of the piano keys smashing at jumpscares is creative. The biggest problem lay with the ending and the entity that is haunting Dalton. The design to be subpar and childish and this was not a choice made to reflect Dalton’s age. The mezzanine floor where the demon sharpened its talons while "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" played loudly through the area and Dalton lay chained to the ground floor in a room littered with demonic imagery and children's toys felt like this was the creation of an adult trying to emulate a child.
