Funny! Classic kind of kung-fu comedy.
I was happy to finally cross an early Jackie Chan film off my list of shame, and this one features some amazing action bits, all directed by Sammo Hung.
Well worth a rental.
Decidedly not a 'Jackie Chan film' but instead a Sammo Hung film with essentially a guest-starring role for Jackie. And in truth his fights aren't that great, certainly not of the jaw-dropping nature we are used to seeing, only an interestingly staged fight in a funhouse stands out as truly memorable. Third brother from the Peking Opera Yuen Biao has even less screen time. The action takes place mostly during the opening and closing 15 minutes, the rest of the movie has Sammo and his other cronies engaging in comedy set-pieces. Some are funny like Richard Ng believing he has the ability to control other people's thoughts, while others are more stupid than funny like a far-too-long parade of phony burglars so the guys can each get tied up to the lady detective. Yes, very infantile humor abounds so your tolerance will dictate how you find My Lucky Stars. It's one of the few Jackie movies I had yet to see, and its placement in the order of necessity is exactly where I would have scheduled it.
Alright Chan/Hung picture with lots of other talent. They've had better, but honestly this was when they were in their prime and could do no wrong!
Chan, Hung and Tsang go to Japan with the goofballs from Winners and Sinners in this decent sequel. Sweet finale in a Japanese haunted house.
This movie is Hilarious!!!
Don't remember anything from this.
The first movie that continue the funny gang led by Sammo Hung. Overall good fighting and quite alot of funny moments. Movie start off with Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao chasing after a renegade cop Lam Ching Ying in Tokyo who escape with lots of money. Duo chase him to a theme park and was attack by ninjas. Yuen Biao was knock out and kidnap. Jackie was distracted by a couple to take photographs and lost track. The couple is the ring leader of a gang that offer protection to baddies. Jackie call back to Hong Kong boss Cho Tat Wah for help, he ask for Sammo Hung and gang. He is in prison and the superintendent says he is release. He tries to steal a car and was surrounded by police immediately. This is all a trap for Sammo to make him help. So off he goes to find his fellow brothers. Charlie Chin rob jewelry store with mini bomb using chewing gum and Sammo sabotage his attempt and save him. Fung Shui Fan rob a dentist and later hearing a guy with a rich man name is coming to see dentist, he poses as him. But fact is he want to beat up dentist for affair. Sammo and Charlie pose as police and save him. Richard Ng is in mental asylum, trying to master mind control. Eric Tsang works in a factory and joins the rest. Richard try to mind drive the van but got into accident. They try to bully the bus driver but the bus gang came and reverse the situation. Cho Tat Wah frame the gang for bank robbery and ask Sibelle Hu to lead them to Japan. The guys upon seeing a beauty now don't want to give up the mission. At night they took turns to get rob in her room and tied together with her. Fung is the last one and Eric plans to tie both seperately and Fung expose their tricks. The gang went to Japan for their mission. One funny scene is Eric is finding his 100yen which he drop outside. He says it is dark outside so he come in lobby to find which is brighter. They have to share one hotel room and Sibelle room have one extra bed. The guys fight it out and Sammo wins. But it is to sleep on the bed and move outside, not in same room as her. Sibelle tells Sammo the real mission and he doesn't want anything to do with Jackie. She manage to convince him to help. Duo went to look for Jackie but got attack by baddies. Jackie joins in shortly and defeated them all. The other 4 guys try to order breakfast and use body sign language. Eric order hotdog and got a small mushroom but others got what they want. They act as rich gambler and place big bets in the gambling den. Michiko Nishiwaki thinks they are the robbers and call boss who later meet them. Lam recognize Sammo and the plan is expose. Sammo went to collect the money and meet at the theme park. Jackie follow in and goes through many attacks in the haunted house. The boss saw Sammo lighter which is a GPS. He ask a minion to ignite it along Mt.Fuji. Sammo trick him the gas is used up, the minion stupidly ignite it. Very funny and smart move. Pushing Sammo in the prison, the others who are trapped and Sammo fights it out and Jackie also fights in. Sibelle freed Yuen Biao and later fight Michiko who shows off her muscular body. Sibelle isn't her match and Sammo just punch her once and defeated her. Yuen fights Lam, Jackie and Sammo also trap him. The good guys victory.
It's about as funny as Sammo Hung. So, pretty funny.
