This movie is a fun, straightforward whodunnit comedy, though over time the film quality has degraded to a pretty sorry state. Still, the performances from great actors like Jack Haley and Bella Lugosi come through mostly cleanly and carry the film. On the downside there are too many characters that are too similar to one another, and without more solid introductions they tend to run together. They seem to be having a lot of fun with the script and 75 minutes it doesn't overstay its welcome. Closest comparison: It's like Clue by way of Laurel and Hardy. Setting: Murder Mystery Plot: Murder Mystery Tone: Comedy
As Abbott & Costello (and also Bob Hope) discovered, spoofing spooky sold to the yokels, and viola!, Jack Haley mines the same in this riff on the one-of-the-people-in-this-house-is-a-murderer convention. Haley is not as swift with the yuks as those previously mentioned, but the supporting cast sort of makes up for it. The best? Oy, it's Lugosi, as the butler with murder on his mind ... a hoot.
Jack character is undoubtedly lacking courage in this creepy comedy flick. It's a decent enough script with quality editing and some great close-ups. Besides Lugosi there is a strong cast throughout.
This dark film needed more Lugosi.
This must have been terribly old-fashioned even in its day. It's got a couple odd Wizard of Oz references and a kind of funny running joke for Lugosi.
A spooky and charming, worthwhile horror-comedy with some cool, gothic imagery and a very funny performance from Jack Haley. However, masterful character actor Bela Lugosi felt a little underused.
A Poor Man's Cat & The Canary - Yet Still Hilarious--Pleasant Surprise!!
Not as great as some Dark House movies, but still pretty neat. Lugosi plays his part good and creepy. Shallow plot, and the characters could of been better. Not the most interesting story, but it works.
Mystery spoof involving a strange testament and an insurance salesman mistaken for a private detective. Apart from the odd laugh, this is quite a dull and cheap production.
Un film intéressant, mais qui manque un peu de rythme. Lugosi est toujours aussi performant et One Body Too Many une touche humoristique amusante, même si pas toujours bien comique.
