In this quartet of neo-noir tales, a mysterious salesman (Josh Hartnett) narrates a tragic story of co-dependency, while a musclebound vigilante (Mickey Rourke) tears his way through the criminal underworld in search of his lost love (Jaime King). In another part of the city, a grizzled cop (Bruce Willis) foils the ambitions of a child-killer (Nick Stahl), and an ex-prostitute (Brittany Murphy) evades her ex-pimp (Benicio del Toro) with the help of her new boyfriend, Dwight (Clive Owen).

Rodriguez and Miller bring the latter's pulpy source material to stunning life, with pops of colour to complement the stark black and white cinematography. The Noir-inspired content means plenty of gender stereotypes, but Willis and Rourke shine.

An incredibly stylized and insane action film noir that's an awesome and action-packed juvenile power fantasy that every kid has dreamed about. It's a comic book brought to life in every sense of the word. It's incredibly faithful to the artwork of the comics and it's very impressive how they pulled that off. The movie is frequently violent, as not a minute goes by without some punching, kicking, slicing, or shooting. But the violence is so stylized and well-choreographed that there's almost an art to it. I love the cool black and white comic book visual style and bloody action. It's impressive how well this translated Frank Miller's graphic novel to the big screen, frame for frame. I loved Marv's story about love, loneliness, and revenge after the love of his life Goldie is killed. Elijah wood's serial killer character Kevin is both goofy and very disturbing. The male gaze is very apparent and only Marv's story is deep. But it's still a VERY fun movie and a visual feast for the eyes.

Very unique cinematography that makes the movie better than it would be without it. Each shot looking and sounding like a comic book is the main appeal of the film. Story is also ok in a short story kind of fashion where often not too much happens and then is quickly resolved. Actors are great and some of them feel like they walked right out of a comic book. And of course all the sexy ladies is a nice added bonus the film does not hold back on.
