See more Anita C @Brokenbow Jan 12 The scenes and culture are accurately depicted and I can tell you that because I lived there for 20 years and am one of the few lucky women to get out of the country. The point of the movie is to tell you that these type of horrors happened, and it gets the point across. When you watch the movie knowing that this is not fiction, and that it really happened, it really gets to you in a way that no other movie will. The women there truly are suffering and truly are without a voice and are not heard. The fact that critics rating is somehow the default score is just corrupt. Frankly it doesn't even deserve an independent scoring system, especially in light of how unbelievably out of touch these people are. Why is ANY critics' opinion EVER more important than any other viewer?! Does it take a medical doctorate to make writing about films a profession? The 'critics' that snootily dismiss a film raising awareness of this true story are worse than spineless. They are cold blooded. Everyone should watch this movie in honor of Soraya and to show the world just how horrifying human rights are in this part of the world. To see how an innocent women can be falsely accused of infidelity and then sentenced an utterly unimaginable penalty, stoning to death, is both shocking and shameful. See more dave s @RT68722908 08/16/2021 The Stoning of Soraya M., the true story of an Iranian woman falsely convicted of adultery and sentenced to death, is an important story to tell. Unfortunately, the film is a ham-fisted attempt to share the story. The first half is filled with one-dimensional characters speaking in stilted dialogue. To top it off, it contains some of the most pointless and irritating editing in recent memory, often resembling a hyperactive MTV video. One would think longer cuts would give the viewer time to contemplate the horror of the situation, but such is not the case. To be fair, the second half of the movie is much more impactful as the filmmakers rely more on images to create the drama and the excessive dialogue that plagues the first half is mercifully scaled back.
