Movie Info

After repeated encounters in the Ethiopian desert a stiff-lipped British officer and sharp-witted Italian officer come to realize that war is an utterly pointless endeavor. This spirited and razor-sharp British comedy chronicles the events that lead them to their conclusion. The adventure began in 1941 when the British Major Richardson and his unit crash their reconnaissance plane. Italian Captain Blasi and his men find the downed enemy and take them in and offer them freedom if the Brit's will allow the Italian patrol to hide out in an abandoned fort. The deal is done. Occasionally the two encounter each other and at those time they are always left with the growing sense that the whole war is meaningless. The trouble begins when Richardson is ordered to attack the Italians in their fortress and therefore break his promise. Fortunately, the two men create their own kind of resolution to the dilemma.

Audience Reviews for The Best of Enemies

Great fun for a war movie. Interaction between David Niven and Alberto Sordi is a comical clash of cultures/enemies
