Abubakarr J @RT56938998 Jun 18 Let’s get the elephant in the room out the way: Berserk (2016) is not winning any animation awards. Unless the category is Most Creative Use of Budget Restraints. Yes, the CGI is janky. Yes, some scenes look like a fan-made mod of Dark Souls. And yes, the editing at times feels like it was done by an intern rushing to meet a Monday morning deadline. But hear me out: beneath the cursed frame rate and memeable visuals lies the raw, undiluted spirit of Kentaro Miura's masterpiece. Guts is still Guts — brooding, broken, brilliant. The Black Swordsman arc finally gets animated. Schierke shows up. The Tower of Conviction arc hits like a bag of bricks, emotionally and thematically. The sound design? Slaps. The music? Hiroyuki Sawano brought his whole chest to that score. And when the show leans into 2D sequences (they do exist!), you catch glimpses of what could’ve been — and it’s hauntingly beautiful. Here’s the thing: if you’re a Berserk fan who’s only heard the hate, you’re missing out. Is it flawed? Absolutely. But it’s also brave enough to push the story forward, and for that alone, it deserves some credit. Don’t go in expecting Demon Slayer animation. Go in expecting Berserk — brutal, beautiful, and unflinching — and you might just come away with a newfound respect. Sometimes, a little grit makes the gold shine brighter.
