The unbelievable story of the 1990 New York Yankees marked a crossroads in their storied history. Not only did the season yield one of their worst records ever, but what was happening off the field was even more alarming. Their bombastic owner, George Steinbrenner, was under investigation by the league for his dealings with notorious gambler Howie Spira in connection to a decade-long feud with star player Dave Winfield. The beloved captain Don Mattingly was navigating a contentious contract dispute and suffering from serious back injuries. Their top free agent signing was missing, while rookie Deion Sanders jumped between two sports. Amid that chaos, the clubhouse was in utter disarray, led by the behavior of hard-hitting outfielder Mel Hall, who was dating a local teenager. It seemed hard to believe at the time, but this mania and incompetence was also sowing the seeds for one of the greatest dynasties in sports history.

If you love the New York Yankees, Bronx Zoo ‘90 is a reminder of how far the team came after those chaotic days. And, y’know, if you hate the Yankees? Some things, while awful, aren’t as relevant to whatever the thesis of the documentary is, and timelines are thrown out the window enough that it’s difficult to trust any sort of chronology about what’s meant to be a specific moment in the team’s history. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Danny E @RT68410494 06/30/2024 So at first I assumed I was going to love this regardless, and I was right (I tend to fancy SPORTS related docs). But what I didn't expect was all the detail and particulars of the Yankees organization that I had NO IDEA went on. If you love to hate the YANKs you might enjoy this a little too much. The story telling was fantastic too me. I love all 3 eps and watch together. The detail of storytelling and people they used for this series were excellent as well. Worth a watch just if you like docs alone. THUMBS UP See more Read all reviews
