Tv Season Info

"Damnation" is a period drama based on an actual Iowa farmers' strike in the 1930s. The story centers on Seth Davenport (Killian Scott), an eloquent preacher who stirs up farmers in a small Iowa town into holding a strike against the banks threatening to foreclose their lands. The situation seems stacked against the farmers, however: The media refuses to report their story. The town's own sheriff (Christopher Heyerdahl) shies away from protecting them to prevent damage to his reelection campaign. Their fellow farmers who haven't joined their ranks sabotage them. Even worse, the banks send to town Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), a strikebreaker known for his ruthlessness. And Turner has an ace in his sleeve—he has a strong past connection with Davenport that the latter wouldn't want to acknowledge. "Damnation" also stars Sarah Jones as Amelia Davenport, Melinda Page Hamilton as Connie Dunn, Chasten Harmon as Bessie Louvin, and Joe Adler as DL Sullivan.

You won't find much hope in Damnation and that's an absence that can only exist unfilled for so long.

Modern relevance and a few good performances are all it has to recommend. It's too often dull, tonally inconsistent, and just poorly written. All the modern political parallels in the world won't matter if the viewer is bored.

I am looking forward to what Damnation has in store for our characters and I have tons of questions.

The Great Depression's vicious class struggles, down to the dumbly surprising ubiquity of our country's white supremacist undercurrent, are leagues more compelling and relevant than any straight-up Western could possibly be right now.

Damnation is a gritty tale of the American labour movement, the economics of greed, the seduction of capitalism, a terrain of strikes, starvation and bloodied soil. It's Deadwood long after the goldrush and minus sweary Lovejoy.

Damnation's audience should be getting bigger and bigger each week, since this is a show that everyone should be watching.

It is great entertainment, and more fun than your history class homework.

Violence, racism, antiheroes in dark Depression-era drama.

The score created anticipation when needed and built bridges between the scenes. The cinematography was alternately sparse and visually sumptuous.

From my view, Damnation has a lot going for it. The political history of the United States is always worth discussing, and the series features an incredibly talented cast.

Audience Reviews for Damnation: Season 1

First off, let me say this was the FIRST series I've ever binged without deviating (and that's saying something considering I've been streaming for almost 4 YEARS now, so my options are pretty endless). I LOVE historical dramas, be it The Lost Kingdom, Marco Polo, The Crown, Hell on Wheels, Frontier, The Tudors, Vikings, The Peaky Blinders, Godless, (I could go on and on) to THIS little gem called Damnation. This series has a raw feel that grabs you from its first episode and won't let you go. I was incredibly dismayed that it was canceled after its debut season, completely shocked. The character dynamics fueled by the political backdrop engulfed by the heart and soul of the story that is Seth and Creely is a tale the should and MUST continue! Bravo to all cast and crew involved-RARELY does a series strike so deeply!

Excellent series. From script, to directing, to acting and everything in between. One season only? Wow. Someone got it very wrong...
  • Mar 19, 2019
one of the best series ever, shame there is no season 2!
  • Dec 03, 2018
Amazing show!!! Please bring back for another season!

Brilliant expose of the Robber Barons... easy to see why American TY doesn't want a second series.
  • Nov 21, 2018
LOVE LOVE this show. Hope Netflix picks it up for a second season.
  • Nov 20, 2018
Great stuff! It's a crime this wasn't renewed for a second seasn.

Very strong cast given big meaty material. Very cool pulpy mix of violence, sex, odd humor, and politics. I think some critics misread it as a prestige show. It's much closer to an Elmore Leonard story, but set in the 1930s. Everyone has a secret and an agenda and a dirty past. And everyone seeks redemption, one way or another. Cool music and cinematography as well. Big hidden gem. Imagine Graphs of Wrath rewritten as a spaghetti western and you might get a sense of the vibe of this show. What a wonderful surprise this Great Depression story turned out to be.

#Damnation on Netflix is amazing. Social commentary on collective bargaining and capitals underhand attempts to break it as serialized in 1930s depression era Iowa, USA. Very dissapointed that such a great show cancelled.

Awesome series, sad USA cancelled the second season . Perhaps USA was not the most suitable network for this kind of show, since it appears to be pro laborers and anti corporations, I hope HBO can adopt this...
