Jan 15, 2023This is a great anime, and I enjoyed it all the way through. Some people may say that the second half is not as good as the first half, but I still enjoyed both parts equally. 8/10

Dec 22, 2022Starts really good, tight and interesting story. Peaks at Ls death but doesn‘t really recover from it.

Dec 21, 2022I overall enjoyed it, but I think the first seven episodes where the best because there weren't as many variables. After that, L knew that light was the prime suspect, so it didn't make sense to me why they kept going. Really good food for thought, would watch again but with another person

Dec 14, 2022Really great show and an excellent story that was! This show is all about the investigation of a killer who uses a book called the death note which writes the names of other people so he would kill them. The main character Light Yagami is sort of being good and bad at the same time. He kills criminals instantly without giving anyone a choice which in a way it is good since he is killing bad guys, but at the same time it is bad because you can't go killing people like that because criminals can be dealt with by law and not murder. The show is about the investigation of this whole thing which I thought was entertaining. For the bad stuff, I don't think there is anything wrong with the show except for overall pictures and animation, I just don't like this kind of graphics and scenes. If the graphics were better, I would have enjoyed it more, but it doesn't matter since I enjoyed the story and that is what matters. Overall, an excellent show that everyone should watch.

Dec 07, 2022Warning: Spoilers The first time I heard of Death Note was from a youtube channel Hello Future Me and his storytelling analyses. Previously I had resented anime as childish and totally weird-looking, but after Timothy took Death Note as an example of a good story-beat management, I was wiling to give it a shot. And boy, was I hooked. Never before have I seen any show try to copy that sherlock-ey way of thinking and incorporate it so cleverly with mystery and fantasy elements. Death Note has such an unique feel to it that no other anime has... every moment Light's and L's theme play, I get slight goosebumps while wondering who will outsmart whom next. It is a matter of simple beauty seeing the writers play with the contrast of Light's and L's personality, making them grow close while simultaneously growing further apart. Ant to top it off with so much symbolism and biblical references in the final episode of L's saga is a matter of pure perfection. Yes, people will say that the second part sucks. Truth be told, even though it may not be equally as engaging as the first one, I wouldn't say it was unbearable either. The fact is that by this point Light is so cornered that he cannot operate on his own; therefore the tension is dissipated towards minor characters and Near that we don't get enough time to care about. Nonetheless, seeing Light maneuver through all the traps Near sets for him provides a proper build-up towards the eagerly expected end. And about the end... I really felt for Light in those final moments. Part of me didn't want the series to end the way it did, simply because Light was the embodiment of my answer to the fundamental questions of justice that stem from Dostoyevski's Crime and Punishment. As much as I may be a follower of Kira in one part of my mind, I also cannot deny that Near is absolutely right - Light Yagami is just another serial killer; nothing more and nothing less. Death note is the first of all the animated series that has introduced me with the fact that not all things animated have to have a happy ending. Think of it, how many western-animation movies do you know that do not end on a happy note? Very few would be my guess. And from this time on, my journey through japanese animation has started. I couldn't be more grateful for the way it began and therefore, Death Note will always be the No. 1 anime I will recommend to people new to anime. If you haven't seen it yet, I really do not know what you are waiting for... ... btw I hear the bells. Do you?

Dec 06, 2022Death Note is one of the best animes I've had the opportunity to get my hands on, I dare say it's the best to represent investigation and suspense in the world of anime. The story is presented to us through a different perspective, we follow Light Yagami, the genius student of primitive sense of justice, but of profoundly advanced intellect, a chemical combination ready to explode when he puts his hands on the Death Note, thus bringing his vile ideas on the fate of criminals. But suddenly we are surprised by the triumphant appearance of the greatest detective in the world using the nickname of L, it is at this moment that the spectators start to change chairs, thinking again about which of them is right, who is the true justice. Now, as no work is free from criticism, I need to point out the biggest sin, in my opinion, in this anime. Close to the final stretch, we have L's death, to everyone's surprise, which in my opinion was a good decision, to the surprise of everyone reading here, I really felt his death, he fulfilled his role, moving with viewers' emotions, but this is where we go from positive to negative, the future consequences of L's death were bad for the work. We are introduced to the home where L grew up, there we meet Mihael Keehl (Mello) and Nate River (Near), who are about to continue the hunt for Kira, disputing over who will be L's successor, but unfortunately the work gives little development to both, especially for Mello, since their presentation was late, it was difficult to sympathize with them, I confess that I liked Mello more, since he follows a completely original ideology, different from Near, who is, practically, a clone from L, the difference is just the change in hair color (Sorry for the joke). Concluding my analysis, I comment on the end of the story, where Ryuk, Light's shinigami, takes his Death Note, as he had promised at the beginning of the story, ending the life of the false god Kira in a poetic way, just like the first name written in the Death Note was authored by Light, the last name closes the list with a golden key being his own name. We learned that alone we cannot change the world, that actions have consequences and that depending on the path we choose, we can have our stories ended prematurely, as wisely shown in the scene where Light is running, after Touta Matsuda shoots him, and can glimpse with his eyes how his life could have been different if he didn't have the Death Note. (Bonus comment) I want to declare that Touta Matsuda is one of the characters I had the most affection for in the work, he is extremely funny, serious when necessary and proved that he is indeed useful filling Kira with accurate shots, a true gunslinger!
