Very interesting premise and concepts that poses some very philosophical and ideological ethical and moral questions. If you had the power to end a criminals life, someone who is a murderer or a rapist, would you do it? A secret crusade to get rid of all the evil in the world. Light is essentially playing God in his human world, which is without a doubt going to bring its consequences and problems. I love how silly Ryuk looks with his cock eyes and huge grin. Holy shit, the way ‘L' one up'ed Light was brilliant. He embarrassed and striped him down. Oh shit! That was amazing how they revealed that Light's dad is none other than the mustachioed man that heads the Japan section within Interpol. It's so impressive how with each episode passing, the plot gets more and more interesting. It's such a smart series. It's insane how creative and elaborate Light is getting with the deaths. Especially with the one criminal that boarded the bus threatening to shoot everyone, meanwhile the FBI dude who was stalking him was on the bus. Light's plan was fucking brilliant but also dangerous. Light says that he wants to use the Deathnote to cleanse the world of all evil, but anyone with that amount of power is bound to start doing questionable and even malicious things. No one should ever have that amount of power - he's playing God and no good can come of it. There's something about L that leads me to believe that he has ties to the underworld or is a god of death in disguise. Raye, the FBI agent who was on the bus when the hijacking took place, his fiancé is very smart and ever since she came into the picture, things have gotten more interesting. Poor girl, the look of absolute horror on her face when Light tells her that he's Kira, it's like her soul left her body. That was a really sad moment especially with the music and the dark imagery of the staircase leading up to a noose - a metaphor for how she basically screwed herself over, done in a very poetic and darkly beautiful way. Wow, Light is actually becoming evil and you can see it in his eyes, having no feelings towards taking human life. Ooooh, this is getting interesting now with this psycho blonde girl who has Shinigami sight and who wants to meet Kira. She seems like an extremist fan girl. Wow, that story about the Shinigami, Jealous, and how he saved his girls life from a deranged maniac trying to knife her to death was quite beautiful. The way he basically sacrificed his life by writing in the Deathnote therefore killing the man, but in the end dying and turning to dust was quite beautiful. Aww, that was sweet, the blonde girl just wanted to meet Kira so that she could thank him or what he did to his parents murderer. How darkly ironic that Light wants to make the world a better place and wants nothing but peace on earth, yet he has evil tendencies and is manipulative. Misa, the blonde girl who's "Light's girlfriend" is so cute, she definitely lightens up the mood and brings a humorous effect to the show. I love her reaction after Light kissed her on the lips. She was so smitten, she was in a daze. Cheeks all blushed. I love how the show gets progressively funnier with each passing episode. I love all the silly and random humor, it's genuinely funny. Relinquishing the power of the Deathnote in turn made Misa, and even more so, Light more human, less monstrous and less evil. It was actually making Light have evil tendencies, and you could even see it in his eyes - he was acting like a God and even admitted to feeling like one. This show further proves that our species should never have as much power as what the Deathnote holds. I love how Rem is intervening within the human world, trying to help out Misa so she doesn't end up dying. What's so interesting is that these gods of death know how long a human has before they die, yet Rem is trying to prevent Misa from dying. I also love how L gets under Light's skin, it's very funny to watch. This whole plan of capturing Higuchi is incredible. It's like some Ocean's Eleven type shit. All the planning that went into it and the action happening was amazing to watch. It felt like I was watching a completely different series or movie. That reveal when they show the cops face with the afro made me jump up out of surprise and excitement. He took it upon himself to create a blockade on the highway in order to stop Higuchi from getting away. It's pretty fucked up how Light uses Misa, and yet Light doesn't really love her or care about her. Now he's getting her to kill criminals again. I feel this is sort of commentary on how some people will blindly follow certain groups, religions, or even cults; doing whatever it takes to gain acceptance even if it means sacrificing your life and ideals. I can't believe it. I can't believe Light killed off Kiyomi just so he could cover up his tracks. Again, just like he did with Misa, he used Kiyomi the whole time. What a selfish and overly prideful bastard. I hope Light doesn't survive and he dies along with the Deathnote. He has no morals or any care for human life. He just cares about being God. I would say that this series has a lot of dialogue. Like a shit ton at times. There's a lot of set up which can get kind of mundane when there's not really anything happening. Although the dialogue is clever and smart, and the show's creativity and writing is brilliant, it can feel a bit draggy. All the mind games that go on are fascinating to watch unfold. The way they build the story up is just pure brilliance. It keeps you watching, engaged and anticipating the next thing. I wouldn't mind watching it again.

A likely gateway for many anime lovers, it's a blend between the crime genre we love and the antiheroes we contemplate over.

This shit went crazy ngl. One of the best displays of a God-complex, not to mention its ability to challenge the watcher's ideals of morality. Super thought provoking

Justice, murder, evil demon spirits...How far would you go to correct the very essence of what is wrong with society? Death Note is an exceptional anime, that is without question, but the second half of the series falters as it leads to a perfect denouement. That alone drags down its vast promise.
