Critic Reviews for Death Note Season 1

All Critics (14) | Top Critics (4)

Death Note is one of the most tightly plotted anime you're likely to watch... It's a fascinating show with a colorful cast of main characters, with moments both hilarious and haunting.

Feb 22, 2019 | Full Review…

Death Note's audacious attempt to explore and even question the idea of morality is ambitious and ultimately more hit than miss.

Sep 26, 2018 | Full Review…

Beyond its deft twists and turns, Death Note also addresses questions about morality, justice, and capital punishment. All this, plus beautiful animation and well-written dialogue and plot, makes Death Note the cream of the animated crop.

Jun 11, 2018 | Full Review…

Some droning voice acting leadens what is otherwise a brilliantly terse noir.

Sep 26, 2018 | Full Review…

If Death Note succeeds in at least one thing, it is that it has possibly created the most interesting and intriguing character of all anime.

Feb 25, 2019 | Rating: 9/10 | Full Review…

A well-paced thriller with remarkable characters, thought-provoking themes, lots of unexpected twists, and fascinating battles of wit.

Feb 22, 2019 | Full Review…

The storyline is terrific -- as with horror-fantasies like Boogiepop Phantom and Paranoia Agent, Death Note doesn't limit the focus to the protagonist, and it considers the effects his activities would have on society at large.

Feb 22, 2019 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

[Death Note] deserves a space on the list of the best anime of all time.

Sep 26, 2018 | Full Review…

My final take on Death Note is thus: This was the greatest anime there has ever been. This was the greatest anime dub there has ever been.

Sep 26, 2018 | Rating: 10/10 | Full Review…

This cat-and-mouse series is highly addictive.

Sep 26, 2018 | Full Review…

Death Note holds a prominent position in the canon of modern anime, and at only 37 episodes is well worth the time it'll take you to watch it.

Sep 26, 2018 | Full Review…

Death Note is a fascinating concept that heads into unsuspected territory. It's unlikely that you'd find a sociopath...as the protagonist in a Western television show.

Literally my favorite anime! Terrific for almost the entire story! Both story arcs captivate the audience and their ideas of morality/justice. Light against L is the ultimate match of wits and wills. Each move they make is like a game of chess where the perfect counter is used! Extremely enjoyable and a must watch!!!

10/10 anime. Personally the best there is. First time saw it in 2014, have been a fan ever since. Rewatched it many times and its still amazing. The plot, character and even the animation for that time all are amazing!

  • Jun 18, 2020
Great anime, one of the best in history to date.
  • Jun 08, 2020
a little bit cartoonish, but fully functional
  • Jun 01, 2020
An unusual story with a little bit of fiction to support some rules that ties the story to a land on which we can put our feet down. And an absolute tom and Jerry concept with real complications of our conception of good and evil from a roschach point of view.

Uma obra prima em forma de anime, dificil alguem não gostar desse anime.

It's hard to see how much tension is in DEATH NOTE until it has you. The story never stops unfolding until the end.
