A divorced psychologist tries to help his patients, some of them famous, cope with their life traumas while sharing his home with aimless adult son Ben, who only lives to make passes at Dr. Katz's sarcastic receptionist, Laura. The show was animated in a style, called Squigglevision, invented by the show's co-creator, Tom Snyder.

Jonathan K @NojEsco 06/08/2021 In many ways, Season 5 is the apex of the entire Dr Katz series as a whole -- the stories offer a bit more going on than in Season 4 but don't try to be too nuanced like Season 3 sometimes did, and many episodes are purely devoted to just the quirks of Jonathan and Ben. Along with that, certain episodes like 'Ticket', 'London Broil' and 'Thanksgiving', are absolute classics, and in all honesty, having watched the entire series several times, I can honestly call 'Paranoia' the most outright funniest episode of the entire series, pitching both characters against a dangerous situation, how the aftermath plays out, how the eventual fallout carries out, and how Laura's take on the whole situation differs from their own, with her almost coming out as the voice of reason; it also combines some verbal bits with absolutely perfectly done visual off-sets that, if watched in the iPad Age (so to speak), will almost certainly go unnoticed. And best of all, I can't actually think of any duds this year -- Maybe 'Miles Away' is kind of a dud, as it features a surprisingly uneventful (and ultimately kinda depressing) story about Ben visiting international relatives, but the way that The Doctor and Laura change with Ben's absence still makes for some genuinely good moments in themselves. All in all, however, this is just excellent television - a well-established show with the original creatives still in charge, running on a confidence and tried-and-true formula that allows this to represent the show at its pinnacle.
