Season 1
Life's Too Short

Critics Consensus

Life's Too Short is enjoyably crass, but borrows heavily from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's previous work.

Critic Reviews for Life's Too Short Season 1

All Critics (32) | Top Critics (17)

Life's Too Short is an acquired taste worth acquiring.

There are some funny bits, while Gervais expertly fashions his own comeuppance for last year's Golden Globes' roast.

Laugh, wince and tune in for more of Gervais' insightful and intentional pushing of our buttons.

It still leaves me feeling down because this first season could've done so much more.

This could be, you'll excuse me, huge.

Life's Too Short is really just a meanderingly unnecessary walk through the mirrored tunnels of Gervais's self-regard.

Feb 19, 2012 | Full Review…

Life's Too Short is an intermittently funny but mostly mediocre retread of the themes and humor from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's previous shows.

Feb 19, 2012 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…

We're glad to be on this side of the screen, laughing through their pain.

Feb 19, 2012 | Full Review…

It's very hard to write when tears are streaming down your face.

Feb 19, 2012 | Full Review…

Comedy isn't pretty, but in the Short run, it can be painfully hilarious, even when it feels like Gervais is retreading some awfully familiar material here.

Feb 19, 2012 | Full Review…

Political correctness in general is completely removed from Too Short, for the better.

Feb 19, 2012 | Full Review…

The show conjures the most laughs when Mr. Gervais is on screen, but his presence doesn't mesh naturally with Warwick's world.

Audience Reviews for Life's Too Short: Season 1

  • Apr 13, 2020
Fantastic and one of a kind. Very (VERY) dry.
  • Jan 25, 2020
It's been a few years since I watched it, and for some reason I didn't get to rate it then. But I remember liking it a lot!
  • Sep 04, 2018
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's brand of comedy is still alive and kicking in "Life's Too Short" if slightly more familiar after the overall meatier "The Office" and "Extras". Warwick Davis's acting fits their type of humour very well, and the three of them succeed in combining some hilarious moments, acute social awareness, emotional resonance and A-list guest stars deconstructing themselves, yet "Life's Too Short" doesn't have the consistency or originality that would make it essential.
  • Aug 23, 2017
Warwick Davis is hilarious and accompanied by Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais with guest stars in every episode. This show is quite humorous with elements of untouched comedy. I watch these episodes over and over, wanting more.
  • Aug 05, 2017
Funny series. I wished I knew about it when it first came out.
  • Jul 18, 2015
Ricky Gervais is NOT funny. he is a horrible sadistic disgusting person. His shows are not funny, they are Felonies. Ricky is an awful creepy troll who ought to be deported as a sadistic creep.
