What to Know

Critics Consensus

Anya Taylor-Joy is Lucky in an entertaining bit of thrilling fare that often promises more than it can deliver but never lets the audience down when it comes to action and intrigue.

An Apple series that asks the question: Can the starshine of Anya Taylor-Joy hold your in thrall for seven hours of bumpy crime drama? Three words: Bet your ass. Go to Full Review

Taylor-Joy is a force to reckon with and an anti-hero worth rooting. Go to Full Review

In making Lucky, the streamer took the source material and bafflingly regressed it to the mean, substituting for the lottery-ticket problem a conflict that’s much more forgettably garden-variety. Go to Full Review

Lucky is that it isn’t all that smart, and quite often the show’s title reflects how one feels about its resourceful main character. Go to Full Review

It may get a bit overstimulating at times, but Lucky is a tour-de-force in all-in, fun, experimental television. Go to Full Review

While we want to like Lucky for the performances by Taylor-Joy, Bening, Ellis-Taylor, and Olyphant, details are frustratingly difficult to come by and the characters don’t have any depth to them, at least during the first two episodes. Go to Full Review

Slick R @SlickReviewer 7h Mediocre so far. Not that original in plot. Hopefully it gets better then I can update the rating. So many other AppleTV shows are better. See more Dawn V @RT5679093211 9h It’s kinda slow but the cinematography and action is really good. Hoping it picks up in the next few episodes. See more Bernice S @BerniS 12h I watched the 2 episode premiere. The first episode was propulsive, and the second episode slowed things way down. This is a typical pattern with Apple thrillers that, from past experience, don't finish out well. I probably won't bother keeping up with it. See more Emanuele D @Immanuel_79 23h Anya Taylor-Joy is magnetic as Luciana "Lucky" Armstrong, a con artist forced back into the criminal underworld after a heist goes sideways. It's a propulsive, sun-scorched chase — FBI on one side, a crime boss on the other — but the real pull is the prickly father-daughter dynamic between Taylor-Joy and a superb Timothy Olyphant, with Annette Bening and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor rounding out a stacked ensemble. When it leans into that emotional core — nature versus nurture, the cost of conning yourself — it genuinely sings. The trouble is the plotting. The central con sits offscreen in the backstory and adds surprisingly little, so a few threads feel underbaked and the twists don't always land with the weight they're chasing. Still, it's slick, tense, and anchored by a star giving it everything. Not quite must-watch, but a stylish, easily bingeable thriller worth your time. See more C C @FairandHonest 1d Cliched and predictable. As other reviewers have pointed out, implausible that the FBI would be that exercised over $10 million. Father-daughter crook dynamic is pretty played out and tired. Meh. See more Bernard D @BernardBuckeye 1d If you like a Girl Boss movie (not being critical just what it is) this movie is likely for you. Olyphant is always good. See more Read all reviews
