Mission Hill: Season 1 Reviews

The series' humor was delivered in a dry, subtle manner unmatched by most cartoons at the time, essentially standing as a smart man's animated sitcom for a generation not yet ready to appreciate it.

Mission Hill fails to take advantage of any of the edges animation offers. The characters are dullards and the premise desultory. If it's not an oxymoron, this cartoon is lifeless.

Although "Mission Hill" is billed as a series that will both "embrace and satirize youth culture," its value and benefits from animation are not immediately apparent. Nor is there much distinctive about the voices.

Not as pretty as "SpongeBob SquarePants" or as ugly as "South Park," "Mission Hill" resides in its own aesthetic neighborhood where the animation is just a vehicle for clever writing.

The animation style seems a throwback to the late '50s and early '60s... But the animation is rarely used to advantage, to take stories to the realm of the outlandish and even impossible, where live action can't go. And the writing fizzles.

In its own way, Mission Hill remains fresh, perhaps even groundbreaking.

While it probably won't keep you in stitches, the show will strike a chord with young adults who can relate to the characters and their woes. For them, it's a decent way to spend 30 minutes.
