Against all odds, Monarch continues to pack a striking gut-punch of action-drama by embracing its Legacy of Monsters' talent and leading with a cast of rich and complex characters.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters roars back with a Kong-sized, action-packed return to the MonsterVerse -- even if its human drama doesn’t always keep up with the mayhem.

The fleshing out of the MonsterVerse continues to fail to make most of its human characters interesting, but scrapes by on the outsize thrills of its Titanic action. Go to Full Review

If Monarch keeps its focus on titans, tension, and letting Kurt Russell do what Kurt Russell does best, this could finally be the MonsterVerse series that stomps instead of strolls. Go to Full Review

Viewers who came to the series expecting little more than Godzilla spectacle and were won over by its character work and emotional resonance may find themselves drifting away this time around. Go to Full Review

While the tried-and-tested kaiju-cinema formula of reducing the scale of kaiju confrontations to partial glimpses preserves their big-screen aura, it often ends up limiting their narrative function within the series. Go to Full Review

Eric N @EricNix 2d Season 2 was another solid one for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. I actually thought there were more monsters this season, so that was an added bonus. I'd agree with some reviewers that there was maybe too much soap opera stuff going on, especially between Cate and Kentaro. Having said that, it did add to the humanity of the show, which is something that tends to get lost in this type of series. Judging by the ending, I'm assuming that Apple TV intends to greenlight a third season. As always, I'm grateful they stand behind their series and, for the most part, renew the shows that have a loyal following. That's certainly not the case for a lot of streaming services, which is why I'm always happy to renew my Apple TV subscription every year. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is a solid, entertaining season and well worth your viewing time. See more Rick D. @RT62821613 3d Writing was horrible, way too much melodrama with whiny characters. You’re telling me that a character is supposed to have the emotional and mental strength to go head to head with a titan but whines over and over when they receive bad news? I feel like Godzilla and King Kong were invited to be extras on 10 episodes of a daytime soap opera. See more Avindu G @RT86379654 Jun 7 From saving sea straits to avoiding a ministerially prescribed fallout - all while entertaining the free market and defending against the amphibious goliaths - It seemed too much for the Monarch's plate. As Kurt holds the fort and Wyatt plays the lover through timelines, there's significant humane dialogue the story tries to unfold with strong acting of the cast. But it still won't be what the monster enthusiasts would cherish. The only things they would though are the CGI and the audio effects such as the thematic whale call. It's an entertaining season of many almosts that should not become another Fast & Furious and instead descend if needed, as the sort of Legacy it meant to be. See more John S @JohnSmithReviews Jun 4 Dull and too much about whiny humans. Emphasis on the whiny. See more Chris B @CBoosalis May 31 Season 1 ...great Season 2 ... the only monsters in this dull season 2 .is the monster soap opera they wrote in ...awful ..just awful See more AJ L @aj9843 May 31 I am a huge creature feature fan so this is in my wheelhouse so to speak, but I do feel it was done incredibly well. Pacing just a smidge slow for my liking and some characters flip-flop on their motivations a bit too much, but this was really enjoyable!! See more Read all reviews
