Seeking the chance to build a better future, a group of courageous pioneers departs Earth for Carpathia, a newly discovered planet in a distant galaxy. Led by President Richard Tate and his core team of Stella, Cass and Fleur, the pioneers settle in the town of Forthaven, creating a society there alongside expeditionaries Mitchell and Jack. Having embraced all the challenges that come with forging a new beginning, the townspeople work hard to preserve what they've built on Carpathia, and even as they long for those left behind, there is optimism about the future. But while they try to learn from mistakes made on Earth, there is no avoiding the human pitfalls of love, greed, lust and loss.

There's a bit of Lost in all this, though the jury's out on whether Outcasts deserves to be found. Go to Full Review

Outcasts has thematic and character-driven ambitions, as well as a gorgeously weird setting Go to Full Review

Outcasts is too familiar to imagine it will have much of an effect on science fiction TV. Go to Full Review

Talky and grim, and more than a little bland, Outcasts almost entirely lacks humor, wonder and engaging characters. Go to Full Review

Someday there will be a terrific TV series about colonizing another planet. BBC America's Outcasts (9 p.m. Saturday) is not that show. Go to Full Review

Paul M @RT05237716 Nov 15 I thought the story, the acting and the premise were all fantastic. I bought this on DVD just so l could see it. Its a shame money and the complexity of filming in south Africa ended this show early. See more Pete S @Petefilm66 12/28/2023 Absolutely brilliant, can't understand all the flak the series was given. Excellent cast, well acted, thoughtful and engrossing. Scandi-noir in space. See more Alex D @RT68893055 12/31/2022 for 2010 I would say it was average, but now 2023, in retrospective and compared to shows made these days, Outcasts looks quite decent. See more 03/02/2017 I liked it a lot more than most people. Liked where it could go, but alas... See more 10/18/2015 More than a little similarity to Earth 2 and ultimately suffers the same fate. Just about everything you can say about sci-fi as a genre can be found in this very ambitious, earnest, but classically flawed series. Like Defying Gravity, I was intensely interested in the story and themes but also acutely aware that it would get cancelled despite its merits. See more 08/26/2015 For those who expect that all conceptualizations of the future must include non-stop action: you are idiots. I admire that a futuristic story can be dramatized without leaning heavily on the crutch of advanced technology. Take a moment to actually seize hold of the characters, and they'll take you along into their experience of Carpathia. Hard-core action enthusiasts may want to pass, or at least fast-forward through the "dialogue" (which takes some acting talent) to the bloody-noses, gunfire, and explosions. It's a serialized sci-fi *drama*, people -- if you want to be riveted to your seat, and aren't, you need to watch a CGI-heavy, dialogue-devoid show about super heroes or cyborg cops.
