Spartacus: War of the Damned (2013)

War of the Damned

Critics Consensus

War of the Damned is a gory, operatic, and soporific conclusion to the Spartacus saga that will obligingly sate fans' lust for blood and glory, although skeptics will likely remain unimpressed with the series' schlocky theatrics.

Tv Season Info

This captivating and compelling action-adventure spectacle chronicles the saga of a heroic Thracian warrior turned Roman slave turned gladiator turned leader of a rebellion against his Roman captors. In the series 3 premiere, Spartacus (Liam McIntyre) sees his army grow and deal a serious blow to Rome's fighting legions, which leads Roman officials to seek empire-saving funding from the aristocratic and ambitious Marcus Crassus (Simon Merrells). Troubles continue to thwart Spartacus and his rebels, however, as they deal with food shortages, shelter problems, betrayals, mounting casualties and a spy in their midst. In the end, Spartacus and his outnumbered rebel force prepare for what could be their final, pivotal battle against the Romans.

Spartacus in fact is what it is - a broadly drawn, visceral feast of blood, guts, lust and lower-rung language. War of the Damned doesn't spare any of it en route to its no doubt hellish conclusion.

It's cartoon violence, but it still creates enough blood spurt and spatter that we half expect to find we've stumbled into a crossover episode with "Dexter."

The new Romans are no replacement for the original Romans of the series.

The series finale justifies this last season's subtitle, War of the Damned, with a truly epic clash of historic titans.

The backdrop this time is a whole theater of war, not just an arena. The stakes have been raised, and the bloody conclusion is in sight.

It's all a muddled mess of computer-generated battlefield scenes.

Beautifully filmed, engagingly good and filled with the most gorgeous men on TV.

It becomes clear why this final season is labeled War of the Damned, and all but guarantees that while [the] fighting will lead to a bitter end, it will lead viewers to the most savory of conclusions.

So great of series. Epic final season does not disappoint

Yes these gore and sex, but also great plot lines and held my attention tightly throughout.

The Best Season of this intense Series. Spartacus and his army struggle to maintain unity as factions form all the while crassus and a surprising big name come to crush the rebels.

2078 minutes of this was too much. I liked the first three season a lot, but by the end I was a bit bored with the repetitions of sex and wire-fighting and the same three or four superheroes against 20,000, although Spartacus's army consisted of 10,000 or more fighting men (and women?). Many details probably authentic, but the linguistic authenticity was marred by the split infinitives!

Spartacus offers a renovated vision of the story of the rebel against the roman empire. It has exciting an bloody battle sequences, stunting sex scenes and suitable VFX. Bloddy, sexy and spectacular, Spartacus is an epic journey, full of action and drama in every episode from every season.

This is it. I laughed. I cried like a baby. This the legendary send-off to a legendary series, done so well it hurts. This season rocketed Spartacus to what might very well be the spot for best series I've watched so far.

I struggled watching the last season because I didn't want it to end. Loved the character, the story and just everything really. Great TV show. It did take me four or five episode to get into the show but so happy I gave it that chance. Loved it.

Jupiter's cock! The Gods themselves would rate this 5/5! All hail Spartacus!
