What to Know

Critics Consensus

Stranger Things' slow-building sophomore season balances moments of humor and a nostalgic sweetness against a growing horror that's all the more effective thanks to the show's full-bodied characters and evocative tone.

The second season steps up the pace gently, without losing its firm grip on the very specifically dated narrative speed of the first season. Go to Full Review

I've no idea where it's going, but that's hardly surprising because I've also no real idea where it went. I'll watch it all. Probably, so will you. Go to Full Review

How many other shows about alternate dimensions and Dungeons & Dragons monsters operate with such emotional subtlety? Haters to the left. Go to Full Review

The second season of Netflix's nostalgic sci-fi/horror series makes up for its lack of novelty by deepening its characters and making them, not the monster mayhem, the star of the season. Go to Full Review

A good follow-up season that may not live up to enormous strengths of the first, but does enough to keep us interested and excited for what comes next. Go to Full Review

Noah D. @RT22435038 5d Season 2 felt like a glow up but also an emotional rollercoaster, like everything got darker while going deeper, and I loved that it didn’t just copy season 1 but expanded it in a way that felt natural. The stakes were higher, the Upside Down became more intense, and the Mind Flayer storyline was genuinely terrifying in a more psychological way. The characters leveled up a lot too, especially Will, who went through so much and made everything feel heavier, and Steve completely stole the show and became one of the best characters. The group dynamics were great as well, and adding Max brought a fresh energy that worked really well. It kept the nostalgic vibe but added more tension and emotion, showing things weren’t simple anymore, and even if some parts felt slower or different, it still built perfectly on season 1 and set up what comes next. Overall, it’s a strong season that grows the story while keeping what made it special, and it hits even harder on rewatch, cause of foreshadowing See more av 8 @RT99530239 5d A second season better than the first? The fable is better. The characters (mostly) are more compelling now. They are no one-dimensional anymore. They have got their stories and motives. Newer romances are blooming. Or were they always around? Only rubbish episode was the one with Elevens sister, but otherwise perfect See more stefan C @RT89536469 Mar 9 Not so good as season 1 but still good!
