    Oof, that was Rotten.

    Meh, it passed the time.

Tv Season Info

The drama series, based on the film trilogy of the same name, serves as an origin story for the events depicted in the movies, though set in the modern day. Series 1 follows the life of Bryan Mills (Clive Standen), a former Green Beret, and his beginnings as an intelligence operative. Mills' sister is killed in a shootout with two terrorists sent by Carlos Mejia, a Mexican drug lord, whose son was killed by Mills during one of his missions. Mills manages to get to Mejia and is about to kill him when Christina Hart (Jennifer Beals), Deputy Director of National Intelligence, arrests Mejia and recruits Mills into her team. As the series progresses, the team investigates several terrorist plots using information provided by Mejia, while men loyal to the drug lord try to find a way to break him out of his cell and Mills devises a plan to avenge his sister's death.

Nothing about the show matches expectations, making it a confounding (and largely boring) viewing experience.

Coolly confident action.

The only thing we learn in the early going is that Bryan Mills really, really hates it when his beautiful blonde relatives are endangered. Glad NBC cleared that up for us.

I don't think NBC pulls this one off either. Best to keep your sword sharpened, Clive.

"Oh please," "Oh stop," and "Huh?" are only three of the things I kept shouting while watching NBC's Taken ...The rest of my exclamations are unprintable in a family paper.

While the target audience will probably dig the extensive action sequences and vivid violence, there's no reason anyone else should be "Taken" for a ride.

Mar 26, 2018 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

It's been made pretty ordinary. Too bad, Standen deserves to be shown off better.

Mar 1, 2017 | Full Review…

There's plenty of slam-bang in Taken, NBC's distant prequel to the trilogy of films, but the result is less a buzz than a headache.

Death, guns, and constant mayhem in prequel to film series.

Feb 28, 2017 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

The show doesn't seem interested in functioning as anything other than a platform for occasional fisticuffs, car chases, and gunplay.

Feb 28, 2017 | Full Review…

Taken is far more tense and suspenseful than the procedurals that fill the airwaves these days, and in that way it's a lot more like watching an action movie than most of the cop/detective shows on the air now.

Feb 28, 2017 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

There's got to be more to it than him kicking ass and taking names. That's great for two hours, but not a whole season.

  • Oct 16, 2019
Very entertaining, not sure why the low scores.
  • Sep 05, 2019
Perfect for being a fun action show. Fun to watch and engaging. Would love to see it back on the air.
  • Aug 01, 2019
    nice actors and plot
  • Apr 23, 2019
Generally a subpar offering very no linkage at all to the films, even as prequel. The backstory and setup were also very thin with the hero displaying very little of the required skill set.
  • Nov 08, 2018
Great action series. Clive is awesome.
  • Oct 22, 2018
Great show. Well-paced, great characters although Jennifer Beals looks emaciated. Bryan was my favorite character although I didn't care for his girlfriend.
  • Mar 03, 2018
    Clive Standen is good
  • Feb 21, 2018
Honorable story line. Good balance between action, suspense, technology, family/human relations, and good acting. Good diversity and good gender representation!!! Besides it's filmed in Toronto - one of my favorite cities in the world!
  • Jan 27, 2018
The writing is weak. Maybe the acting hasn't gelled by episode 2. Potential. good rainy Sunday show.
  • Jan 25, 2018
Very disappointing. The writers of this show do not have a particular set of skills....and would have you believe that all the bad guys are white male members of the CIA, the Mossad, or a corporation, and all the Iranians and Jihadis are merely victims of being framed. Pathetic. Absurd. Pure amateurish projection on the part of the writers/producers. What a waste of an interesting star and idea....a cheap sequel or prequel to the movie would've been better.
