Based on John le Carré's novel of the same name, "The Night Manager" is a crime drama following the work of former British soldier Jonathan Pine. Hotel night porter Pine is contacted by an intelligence operative who asks for his assistance to spy on international businessman Richard Roper. The entrepreneur is believed to have forged a criminal alliance between the secret arms trade and the intelligence community, prompting the need for surveillance. Pine attempts to infiltrate Roper's inner circle by becoming a felon himself, while keeping his mission a secret from his hotel colleagues and girlfriend.

Marking a belated but welcome return for Tom Hiddleston's tortured spy, The Night Manager's second season is a glamorous and haunted continuation that only gets better as it goes.

It hits all the right beats, from knotty departmental drama to basic cable erotica, but it does so without much friction or sense of fun. Go to Full Review

The Night Manager season two is a show of two halves, cleaved by a big twist at the end of the third episode which changes the energy of the series. If you find the first few chapters a little dulled, just wait until that reveal. Go to Full Review

The spy game heats up with Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman back in action and a new villain (Diego Calva) to spark political and sexual intrigue. That three-way dance with Hiddleston, Calva and Camila Morrone generates enough sizzle to singe your screen Go to Full Review

Yes, there is something Slow Horses-y about the Night Owls rag-tag team of surveillance specialists attempting to take a more hands-on approach, but that doesn’t undermine the tension-building or the high stakes that quickly ramp up. Go to Full Review

At its best, this sequel series, created by original show runner David Farr, maintains a level of pleasurable dread as Pine struggles just as fiercely as Simon Williams to hide his true identity. Go to Full Review

Season two is much more of a generic thriller than its predecessor. Also -- perhaps he was like this before, but I don’t remember it -- Tom Hiddleston’s character Jonathan Pine is pretty unappealing. Go to Full Review

Per S @RT83737705 5d Not based on John le Carré's novel, and with a different director, season 2 has a rather slow paced start. Just not quite at the same level as Season 1 - though it's thrilling enough, and ten years further on from the original plot we're in for a surprise. See more art T @RT32553708 6d Season 1 > great, Season 2 > very bad ending. I am so tired of Richard Roper. Will not be watching season 3. See more Chris O @RT43077448 Apr 25 First season is decent, even if the "international arms dealer" trope is overplayed and unrealistic. This season, however, was just absurd to the point that I could no longer suspend my disbelief. It’s pure wishcasting of a dying empire. The idea that a single arms shipment from the U.K. could overthrow the government of Colombia is fantasy. I’m used to artists being wholly ignorant of geopolitical realities, but this crossed the line. Also, editing the sign on Medellin’s government government center to call it the Supreme Court was amusing. The Palacio de Justicia is in Bogota. Kinda insulting, really. Like moving a scene about the White House to Miami because the weather is nicer. There are more cities in Colombia than Medellin and Cartagena lol See more Al T @RT71117948 Apr 22 Very disappointed in the ending. The arrogance of leaving on such a downer of a cliff hanger with a two year wait is why AI in this industry cannot come fast enough for me. If I want to see the antagonist come out on top I could just read the news of the day. See more Vishal K @RT50708669 Apr 21 It is worth the wait. Hope there is a season 3 See more henwoj T @RT57140254 Apr 20 CHILDISH story and characters. CLUMSY acting and predictable. See more Read all reviews
