"Still" focuses entirely on Daryl and Beth, and the result is one of the most intimate and character-driven installments in the series' run.

The Oscars may have been the better viewing option tonight.

Honestly, close to nothing happened in this episode. It was another hour of "character development" that forsook plot and forward momentum for a backward glance

It's a matter of individual taste, but we're going to give the benefit of the doubt.

Featuring just Beth (Emily Kinney) and Daryl (Norman Reedus), writer Angela King used the 45 minutes to provide a touching and insightful examination of its two characters that made it one of the drama's strongest episodes to date.

Certainly, for what the hour was trying to accomplish, it was a pleasant surprise

While 'Still' has its flaws, it also sees fan favorite Norman Reedus deliver what is perhaps a series best performance.

"Still" served up some of the more grounded, dynamic, and engaging character moments of the season. This is certainly the most development that Beth has ever been given.

The scene where Daryl breaks into tears is some of the best acting the show has seen yet. Not much happens during "Still" except a more intimate connection with these two characters. I'll take it.

The Walking Dead's writers may have realized they can't create the same tension just by tossing in a few walkers because the zombies just aren't that scary anymore. The solution has been to create tension in tangential way.

If I came out of it not knowing significantly more about who Daryl is than I did before, it was still an effective reminder of what an asset the show has in Norman Reedus.

It's these moments when the best actors on the show really set themselves apart, and when Norman Reedus is given a chance to shine, he always delivers.

It's well-intentioned, I think, and I'll give it points for that; and sections of the episode do work well enough, in terms of helping us know Beth and Daryl better, and understand what they're struggling with.
