Critic Consensus: Arguably noble intentions notwithstanding, "My Struggle II" serves as a disappointingly sloppy conclusion to The X-Files' long-awaited revival -- and a painfully persuasive argument that the show was better left "out there."

Critic reviews for My Struggle II
The season finale of The X-Files is bleak, like Stephen King's The Stand bleak.
There was a little good stuff here and ridiculous (the alien DNA hooey, the disturbing anti-vaccine scare element), plus a cliffhanger ending.
We still love this show, for all its flaws, including the way it can still drive us insane. But at this point, the roller coaster is clearly shaking apart. And Season 10, on balance, was a disappointing ride.
I appreciated the jarring variation of The X-Files's revival. It kept me guessing. It surprised me, and sometimes frustrated me, and occasionally delighted me. It read to me a little like televisional jazz.
