Alain E @AlainE Nov 29 A little gem from the BBC, this three part series comprises social and class commentary pertaining to England in the 1890s and the tumultuous love life of a young lesbian vaudeville entertainer. Photographed well and with convincing interpretations. It’s done with sensitivity and with minimal nudity. Strongly recommended. See more 05/16/2022 This period drama has it all.. and then some! The sets are perfect locations, the costumes are period perfect, down to the last buckle. 'Nan' is from a very lowly, working class background and dreams of a better life, an escape from oysters and very quickly is whisked up by Kitty Butler, a stunning, powerful and connected stage performer, played by the heavenly Keeley Hawes to perfection. Kitty teaches Nan all the ways of her world ..including what 'tipping the velvet' involves! This drama has some superb acting, great little period piece music hall singalongs and romping and double-crossing on so many levels.. You will want Nan (Rachel Stirling) to succeed, yet fall in love with Kitty too. A great story, very well played out and really very memorable..
