Single mom Carli Mitchell, who comes from a rough background, wants to give her kids a better life. So she moves her family to an upscale suburb but quickly discovers that transitioning into "the good life" will not be as easy as she anticipated. Carli is befriended by her cranky, misanthropic neighbor (Ed Asner) and gets a job working in the deli of the local grocery store -- where she falls for her boss, who already has a girlfriend. Carli's ladies-man brother, Nick, helps her out as she faces the obstacles of parenting, dating and making friends in her new community.
