Don Williams

American Country Music legend Don Williams was born in Floydada, Texas on May 27, 1939. He learned from his mother how to play the guitar and began performing music in his teens. He joined with Susan Taylor and Lofton Cline to form the folk-pop trio the Pozo-Seco Singers. The group saw success in the mid-1960s before breaking up in 1969. Embarking upon a solo career he released his first album in 1973 and saw his first chart-topping hit, "I Wouldn't Want to Live If You Didn't Love Me" in 1974. His biggest hit in the United States was the single "I Believe in You" which reached number 1 on Billboard's country chart and number 24 on the Billboard Top 40 when it was released in 1980. While continuously releasing country music albums, Williams made appearances in movies, working a small role with Burt Reynolds in "W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings" (1975) and appearing as himself in "Smokey and the Bandit II" (1980). After releasing over 35 studio albums, he announced his retirement in 2016. Donald Ray Williams passed away from emphysema in Mobile, Alabama on September 8, 2017.
