Jon Bellion
Singer/songwriter and producer Jon Bellion worked his way steadily to the forefront of the hip-hop and R&B scene with a string of mixtapes and a Top 10 debut album, The Human Condition, which underscored his talent at folding those influences with elements of rock and electronic music into chart-topping music. Born Jonathan David Bellion on December 26, 1990 in Long Island, New York, he was a fan of hip-hop and neo soul by the likes of Kanye West and Pharrell Williams while in high school, but focused his energies on basketball. But when he began experimenting with songwriting on his brother's keyboard, he found that his true calling was in music. Bellion enrolled in Five Towns College's music program while working on his first mixtape, Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1, which earned an impressive 11,000 downloads in 2011. He was soon signed to Visionary Music Group and issued a cover of Drake's single "The Motto" via the company's YouTube channel in 2012. The following year proved to be a watershed period for Bellion's career: he penned the chorus to "The Monster," a collaboration between Eminem and Rihanna that within two years time had topped the charts in a dozen countries, including the United States, and earned a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2015. He also co-wrote and produced "Trumpets" for Jason DeRulo, which reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2014. Between these efforts, Bellion dropped two more mix tapes, Translation through Speakers in 2013 and The Definition in 2014, which was followed by his first national tour that same year. He continued to write, produce and perform music at a breakneck pace in 2015, issuing three singles from his upcoming debut album while also contributing to Zedd's "Beautiful Colors" that same year. The Human Condition finally dropped in 2016 and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, while its fourth single, "All Time Low," breached the Top 20 in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, among other territories.
