Aaron Neuwirth

Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

Aaron is a movie fanatic and loves writing and talking about such things, a lot. Born and raised in Orange County, California, he earned a degree or two at UC Santa Barbara. Aaron describes himself as a film reviewer, writer, podcaster, gamer, comic reader, disc golfer, and a lefty. He fell in love with movies at a young age and has continued viewing, studying, and analyzing all aspects of the medium ever since. His mind is full of film knowledge and random trivia, but he is always open to learning more, whether it's through box office stats, reviewing Blu-rays from The Criterion Collection or simply hearing first hand from filmmakers and others about various productions and behind-the-scenes tidbits.

The Visitor (1979) 79% 3/5 EDIT “This is a cult movie experience through and through, and it’s clearly found an audience in the time since its initial 1979 release. I happen to appreciate its controlled weirdness, making it a film not hard to revisit.” – Why So Blu Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Westworld (1973) 83% 4/5 EDIT “The film is well-made and delivers on being a solid mix of satire and thrills. The extra layer of having Brynner on board only adds to the eeriness that should emerge once everything goes haywire. ” – Why So Blu Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Cold Storage (2026) 79% 7/10 EDIT “Given the bleakness found in HBO’s The Last of Us, it’s refreshing to see a film like this that has far more fun with parasitic fungus.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Youngblood (2025) 71% 7/10 EDIT “As a sports film, the plot follows a familiar trajectory, but it is the added shading that allows this movie to work better than it would otherwise.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Redux Redux (2025) 97% 8/10 EDIT “All of this adds up to a film that is subtly cleverer than it may seem, while also delivering on the thrills of its premise in a very satisfying way.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review War Machine (2026) 69% 7/10 EDIT “As a pretty efficient action film that feels like a throwback with modern effects (the heavier-than-expected jingoism reinforces this sentiment), War Machine is the best film on Netflix with that title.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Slanted (2025) 68% 5/10 EDIT “There’s no doubt that the material- and situation-based stories worth looking into in greater depth are the ones I wish this film had explored more effectively. ” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Reminders of Him (2026) 56% 5/10 EDIT “It’s not a matter of trying to pull this apart; I just wish the results (particularly the writing) were stronger. As it stands, I won’t need too many reminders of this one.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review undertone (2025) 72% 4/10 EDIT “While interesting as an exercise in the dependency on audio design, I wanted more.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 14, 2026 Full Review Project Hail Mary (2026) 95% EDIT “Project Hail Mary has plenty of movie to offer for audiences, and the only rocky thing about it would be to not take advantage of seeing such a film on the big screen.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 10, 2026 Full Review Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (2025) 98% 8/10 EDIT “This movie plays like a magic trick, getting you caught up in the low-budget spectacle, only to have you care about the absurd plot unfolding and want these characters to pull off the objective they’re aiming for. ” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review For Worse (2025) 76% 7/10 EDIT “The ultimate joy of seeing how things would play out made for an indie comedy with just enough turns to complement its confident filmmaking.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review Undercard (2025) 47% 6/10 EDIT “Sykes is clearly passionate about many things in her life, and seeing her take the opportunity to channel that into a dramatic performance rather than more stand-up material was bound to pay off. Unsurprisingly, it did.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review Dolly (2025) 62% 5/10 EDIT “Does this add up to much? Not really, but there’s a clear appreciation for the genre that could grow into something strong in the future.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review Blades of the Guardians (2026) 96% 8/10 EDIT “Yuen Woo-Ping has been a martial arts choreographer for decades. Yet, here he is sitting with folks like George Miller and Ridley Scott, acting like they’re all much younger men, and delivering truly thrilling entertainment like no one’s business.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review Pegasus 3 (2026) 7/10 EDIT “Director Han Han does a fine job of assembling tons of footage that lets us feel the dangers and peril of this kind of racing. Even the CG elements are mostly well-handled, keeping the audience from being drawn away from the excitement.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review Hoppers (2026) 93% 7/10 EDIT “Seeing Hoppers work as well as it does makes me at least happy to know Pixar can still nail what’s intended when it comes to being a visually interesting laugh machine that happens to have its heart in the right place.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 6, 2026 Full Review THE BRIDE! (2026) 57% EDIT “Here’s a film daring audiences to join in on seeing the fun of a couple of monsters letting their freak flag fly.” – We Live Entertainment Mar 4, 2026 Full Review Scream 7 (2026) 31% EDIT “Sure, taking a stab in a different direction can work when you’re this far into a series, but it doesn’t make up for a script that hardly feels all that fleshed out.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 26, 2026 Full Review Psycho Killer (2026) 10% EDIT “Combined with direction that feels unsure of how to squash what feels like three different movies together, the results allow for a stylish and brutal horror film, but one that doesn't quite come together as effectively or cleverly as one would like.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 19, 2026 Full Review How to Make a Killing (2026) 43% EDIT “This is a good use of Powell, which does a better job of relying on his inherent charisma and what kinds of things can send him off balance, compared to The Running Man, which tried to convince us he was the angriest man in America.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 18, 2026 Full Review Wasteman (2025) 100% EDIT “It’s brutal in its depiction of the life inside, yet the performances turned in by leads David Jonsson and Tom Blyth make it all the more effective, as we watch what plays out.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 15, 2026 Full Review Crime 101 (2026) 88% EDIT “The real standout performance is Halle Berry, who once again shows just how valuable she can be when put in the right position to deliver.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 11, 2026 Full Review Saipan (2025) 93% EDIT “As a curious bit of history for someone not all that familiar, Saipan was quite an effective portrayal of the costs of seeing a war between men.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 10, 2026 Full Review The Rip (2026) 79% 7/10 EDIT “Sure, the resolution is pretty standard, but this brings out some of the best of what Carnahan has proved to be able to deliver when he’s working in serious mode.” – We Live Entertainment Feb 9, 2026 Full Review
