Documentarian Rex (David Krumholtz) follows ruthless reality television producer Katy Courbet (Eva Mendes), a woman who will stop at nothing to revive the American Broadcasting Network's failing ratings -- and forward her own career. To the dismay of the government, Courbet approves a reality show that will become network television's first foray into snuff. There is a big problem in believing any of it, but a certain amount of fun watching television's more ghastly denizens wonder whether murder will improve the ratings. It does.

Bill Guttentag's film is one of those shrill and cheery conspiracies on the wilder side of probability. But the black comedy has an infectious pace, and screwy logic.

I had to turn the volume down every time the lead actress spoke. Why did she have to YELL through the whole movie? She also seems to think she's in some high school production, at best community theater? And why is this gross woman constantly talking with her mouth full? Would've been decent with a decent lead. I've seen A Serbian Film and this woman (the actress, not the character) is far grosser and more ridiculous than anything in that movie. I would settle for her just NOT YELLING EVERY LINE.

This movie was crazy crazy crazy. It started off kinda cheezy and I wasn't expecting it to get much better, but the last 30 minutes turned into a jaw dropping, sweating with anxiety, edge of your seat thrill. It was hard to watch and I had to pause it many times because my blood pressure redlined. This is not the kind of movie I would go around recommending because of it's subject matter, but I must shamefully admit that I enjoyed it.

Highly recommend. Shot documentary style and from previews, presumably low budget. Intense plot that becomes more suspenseful with every minute. Great character development. I can't believe this didn't receive more publicity. Mendes is incredible in this film, as well as the rest of the cast...particularly David Krumholtz.
