Youth on the run can be a whole lot of fun, but Reckless, by first-time filmmaker James Foley, is a particularly dreary affair. Go to Full Review

Contrived and cliched as it turns out to be, ''Reckless'' has enough vitality to carry it for a while, although it never stops recalling other films. Go to Full Review

Foley's feature debut treads the familiar turf of defiant teenagers, basically a compilation of contrivances and cliches lifted out The Wild One (Brando), Rebel Without Cause (James Dean), and most recently, All the Right Moves (Tom Cruise). Go to Full Review

Allan C @RT15713161 12h Enjoyably overwrought teen melodrama Reckless (1984) **** Reckless elevates a familiar teen romance with a gritty steel-town backdrop, mature characters, and an enjoyably overheated mix of 50s juvenile delinquent drama and 80s MTV style. James Foley's sleek direction gives the film a surprising edge, while Chris Columbus's script treats its teenage characters with uncommon respect. Steamy, stylish, and more distinctive than most of its peers, it's an underrated entry in the decade's teen movie canon. SEE LETTERBOXED FOR FULL REVIEW See more CodyZamboni Z @CodyZamboni 2d Aiden Quinn is miscast, looks way too old for high school, There are too many silly laugh inducing scenes - ie the school dance, Aiden teasing Daryl Hannah by waving her panties around, As good girl falls for high school outcast and his rebel motorcycle, Surprised that the level of talent behind camera can produce such lame results, James Foley, Chris Columbus, But it is nice seeing Jennifer Grey in small role, Other merits, gritty realistic steel town photography by Michael Balhaus, and a solid early 80's soundtrack See more thiago s @Thiagostone Dec 29 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Elisabeth H @RT31213559 Oct 22 Csodálatos játék Aidan Quinn részéről. See more Sean G @RT44425435 01/05/2025 4.5 stars - but with a catch.... There are many versions of 80's teenaged-movies out of Hollywood. Most seem to represent the sunny West Coast or zany hijinks out of Chicago suburbs. This movie is neither. Instead, Reckless perfectly captures the dreary grey of midwest winter in a dead-end town - backdropped by dying American industry/manufacturing (this pre-dates the "Rust Belt" moniker but the writing was clearly on the wall). It is similar, in many ways, to All The Right Moves - both focus on teenaged angst and escaping the ever-present and unshakeable doom of the factory...where dreams and ambition die. The cast is incredible. The music is amazing. The script is meh. If you're looking for a great movie, this isn't it. However, if you grew up in an industrial, midwestern town in the 80s, this will hit surprisingly close to home. The mood will stick with you...
