Hong Kong action maestro John Woo's most bland of American action films. It's not a bad action flick and is actually better than most, but it's a pretty dull script about corrupt US military man John Travolta trying to steal a nuclear warhead and his subordinate, Christian Slater, trying to stop him with the help of a plucky park ranger, Samantha Mathis, which make me want to consider this film a sequel to "Pump Up the Volume." The action is decent and there are Woo trademarks like two gun, Mexican standoffs, enemies back-to-back on opposite sides of a wall, etc. but it feels like he's just going through the motions. The studio supposedly heavily re-cut the film and maybe there exists a director's cut that's much better. Disappointing for a John Woo film, but satisfying enough by Hollywood action film standards.

John Woo is a master filmmaker. This may not belong the upper echelon of his movies but it's still a damn good time. Especially watching Travolta and Slater square off.

As long as you don't take the film too seriously, it is a fun ride. Has cool camera angles and shots, you can definitely feel Woo's directing. That along with a stellar score and a good performance from Travolta make this film worth watching.

One of the greatest action movies ever made!

You might find yourself being entertained. True the dialogue is ridiculous, but Woo moves it along at the right pace and actors seems to be enjoying themselves. Slater somehow has good chemistry with Samantha -- maybe because their relationship in the movie is relatively smooth, not contentious; they are actually working together toward the common goal of defeating the madman Travolta, instead of the typical Hollywood agenda of bickering. My only complaint about the movie is in regard to a number of scenes in which characters escaped explosions by just leaping (in slow motion of course). You CAN'T leap fast enough to dodge the shrapnel from a grenade (even if it's in slow motion!).

It's good movie to watch

I'm tired of reading review after review bashing this movie. This movie was made in 1996. It was John Woo's first American film debut. It has a star studded cast. Awesome special effects for the time and its fast paced and action packed.
Is it perfect no. Is some of the lines a little corny and cheesy, yes. But what I don't get about critics is the fact that the movies used to be about escaping reality. About having fun and going on a ride for an hour or 3. Lol. Now its runtime is around 2 hours long but it doesn't feel like it. There's a lot of cat and mouse and the chemistry between Cristian Bale and John Travolta is undeniable. They don't have a lot of scenes together but the ones that do, have a great amount of tension and buildup to the final confrontation.
If you like action movies you will definitely enjoy this. If you want a description of the plot, look it up. I personally try not to learn too much about a film so I can enjoy letting the story unravel the way the director intended. Have fun.

Bizarrely underrated action movie packed from end to end with fun performances from a cast that really looks as if they're enjoying themselves.
Slightly more than a guilty pleasure.

A great 90s action film with some intellectual twists and turns. Resurrected John Travoltas career.. only to watch it crash and burn in B:E

Broken Arrow (1996) C-108m. ?? D: John Woo. John Travolta, Christian Slater, Samantha Mathis. Technically impressive but empty-headed action picture dealing with terrorists taking control of nuclear warheads and military pilot pulling the plug on their operation; fatally stupid. Where's Chow Yun-Fat when you really need him?

The most bland action movie ever.

The acting is extremely cheesy. Most of the characters are overacting and annoying. The script is pretty dumb as well. Even with all the explosions and slow motion it did not keep my interest at all.

An all out action film. John Travolta is great as the baddie. John Woo's direction is as elegant as ever. Some good humor too. Good cast.

More plausibility than the reviewers care to fathom or admit.

Fun action flick. I couldn't help but like Travolta's slightly cracked character.
