Loren's first American film has her diving and soaking wet during many scenes. Make no mistake ; her performance is strong and she'd be stunning wearing a burlap sack. Webb is always great playing sleazeballs. Always a fan of Ladd but here he's too much older than Loren.

There are literally five performers in this film set against the backdrop of the sun-washed Grecian Isles: Sophia Loren, her chest and her eyes (in that order precisely). The director wastes no time in showcasing her chest, and the guy was right about that. She was 23 when filmed and a Death Star all on her own, in her own right. What's interesting is how she fights to be more than simply eye candy, and that is seen in her eyes which is where one meets the firebrand Ms. Loren herself, and her international debut is explosive indeed. Yes, other people show up, but what chance do they have? The Greek Islands barely had a chance. The story, about the quest for a found item of antiquity, hardly matters at all, the camera - and you, dear reader - merely waiting for Loren to show up again.

Oh my God, Sophia Loren is a Goddess! Her passion, her eyes. I was in love with her as a teen and as an old man still she is the one!

Sophia's first American film grabbed the international audience's attention and they never let go. She's a delight to watch as fiery Greek sponge diver Phaedra who discovers a sunken treasure, a sculpture from which the film gets its name (I had long wondered what the title meant). She needs help with salvaging and is torn between the services of two candidates. Clifton Webb can offer her a fortune but intends to sell the national prize illegally on the black market, whereas archaeologist Alan Ladd can only offer her a pittance reward but she will bring glory and pride to her country. Webb plays the suave and slightly condescending genteel criminal perfectly, but Ladd is barely adequate and well past his prime. Only in the movies would someone sculpted like Sophia Loren turn her head - or in this case, look down - to notice him as a romantic interest. And if you're ever vacationing on the island of Hydra and run into trouble, just ask for Niko - that kid can do anything!

The very dated adventure/romance set in the Greek Islands. It isn't a bad film but other than some stunning backgrounds & locations this film truly does fall short. Casting for this film was peculiar but the story gets lost a little mid way and it has many pointless scenes pushing a love story between Loren & Ladd despite having little chemistry together. There where so nice scenes here and there but I wish there was more story on the boy on dolphin itself, not a bad film just nothing special.

Boy on a Dolphin is a wonderful. It is about a poor female sponge diver who finds a sunken treasure with a statue of boy riding on a dolphin. The settings in Greece are beautiful. Alan Ladd and Sophia Loren give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Jean Negulesco did another great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the adventure and romance. Boy on a Dolphin is a must see.
