Critics Consensus

What makes Dan Brown's novel a best seller is evidently not present in this dull and bloated movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code.

By the end, the film degenerates into wishy-washy relativism of the school that says "the only thing that matters is what you believe", a real cop-out after the hectic Grail quest preceding it. Go to Full Review

Ali M. @Alamo 22m I think it was marvelous. I watched it for the fifth time and as always, couldn’t tear myself apart. And this from someone who rarely sticks with a movie longer than five minutes. Beautifully directed and awesome acting. Definitely among the top 20 best movies I have ever seen. See more ARG VIROX T @AVGVSTVS May 25 A good idea on paper, but in practice the film tends to be too long (perhaps the shorter version is better). Many moments are drawn out, even tedious; historically, it's a disaster, even if it's fiction. The last 30 minutes were more enjoyable. In short, it's not unpleasant to watch, but if you haven't seen it, you're not missing anything particularly important. I enjoyed it, and appreciated the adventure that it took us on. Of course, I also enjoyed the book series as well. This and National Treasure are a lot alike for me. One deals in the US Government and this one with the Christian Faith. See more Read all reviews
