Virgo V @vision Dec 16 Daughters, Wives and a Mother is a 1960 Japanese drama film directed by Mikio Naruse. It was written by Toshiro Ide and Zenzo Matsuyama. It was produced by Sanezumi Fujimoto. It stars Setsuko Hara, Masayuki Mori and Hideko Takamine. It was distributed and produced by Toho Company, Limited. Vision wrote: "Setsuko Hara, a recent widow and the eldest daughter of a family, returns to her mother, eldest brother and his brother's wife. The family argues over what to do with the money Setsuko’s husband left her. They also argue where to put the mother. The mother seems disappointed. In the end, no mother who takes care of her family gets put into a home. She has nothing to worry about. This film hit home hard. Even the humour was on point. One of the best Japanese drama films I have ever seen. Four fries for the direction, the performances and the writing. A Julienne; a classic! Well done Mikio Naruse." See more Read all reviews
